I'm looking to order some samples, but am quite unsure of my undertone!

I thiiink I'm neutral-cool because I look much better in silver jewellery and warm peachy blushes look horrible on me. But on the other hand, my veins are green and I've been told by MAs that I have very yellow tones in my skin!

Here are my current foundation matches (even these aren't EXACT..):

- Bobbi Brown - Honey (5)
- MAC - NC43/NC44
- NARS - Syracuse/Tahoe
- Lancome - Teint Idole - Beige Cognac 50
- Chanel - Pro Lumiere - 050
In the photos you look a tad warm, but they are indoors, so it is harder to read. Our darker bases are Deep Ebony, Olive, and Peach. I think you are best off ordering a sample kit and swatching these three to see which is closest to your skintone. In all of them you will need a ratio of about 1 scoop color to around 6 white.
Thankyou! I've ordered some samples. Here are some outdoor photos, I'm not wearing any foundation in either, does this give a better idea of my undertone?

Still searching for the perfect foundation shade. I have moderate rosacea and all the pics i have I'm wearing full makeup, but I'm in natural light so you can see how it looks on me. In both pics I'm wearing Lucy Minerals in Bisque, the second one is a great example of how off it looks compared to my neck and jaw. I used to wear EDM in Buff - Fairly Light Neutral and it was close as well, but not perfect. I wear so much t cover the redness that it has to be a very close shade.

I'm honestly not sure if I'm warm or cool, I usually stick with neutral bases since most others go pink or orange on me. Thanks in advance!

caramel: The outdoor pics make me think Olive is probably going to be the closest...... I would still take a look at Deep Ebony, though. Ratio will be close to 1:6.

scapegrace: I think Olive for you, too. Your coloring looks very similar to mine. I would try Olive at about 1:14. You are right about the Bisque, I think it is a tad too yellow, and maybe even slightly too dark. I think you are pretty neutral in tone. The Olive will also help a little with the redness you mentioned.

Hi Jen,

I hope you are doing well! I used to post a lot on Vox a few years ago but have been MIA since passing my certification exam and being a work slave! Anyhow, i have sample kits with all the bases and cannot for the life of me figure out my undertone or ratio. I just returned from Hawaii a couple months ago and am still sporting a tan. I have gotten progressively tanner this past week since attending the Renaissance Faire that passed through. I don't know if you recall, but during my vox days, i was quite pale and and am working to reverse the sun damaged skin. While I am working on lightening up, what would you recommend for my "tanner" state? FYI, i have tons of frankenstein silk natural mix samples. i also have never found a true match in any MMU foundation. I have EDM sandy fair and Cory's buff beige--this was before my tan and they were never a perfect match. I would say a non-MMU foundation that matches me pretty well now is Shu Uemura 764. Sorry, about the pictures, i just hennaed my hair and have an orange hair line. My forehead is also darker than the rest of my face from walking the Ren Faire and Hawaii. Your help is always appreciated, thank you!

Thank you for asking, Kristen. I am doing well and just trying to wrap up the end of the school year with my kids who are in Intermediate School. Only two more days! :D The Renaissance Faire in Hawaii sounds like it would be fun!

After looking at your photos, I am wondering if you ever tried Olive. I don't think you have enough yellow for Buttery Gold, and I also don't think you have enough peach for Warm Gold. Right now, I think you will be at about a 1 scoop color to 9 or 10 white....and you may get as light as a 1:12 or 13 when your tan fades.

Hi Jen! Glad to hear you're doing well. Will the kids be going to summer or do they get to spend the whole time with you? Wow, i miss having regular vacation as a student! Sorry about the confusion--i was in Hawaii for a week, then i returned to California and went to the Ren Faire. Both were fantastic experiences, not sure how good it is for the skin.

Yes, i think i tried the olive but messed up on the ratio then added this and and that and got a crazy weird color. I am going to try the olive at the ratio you suggested. Thanks a ton Jen!

Hi! I'm ready to start sampling, could you please suggest a mix for me? I wear Olive/Golden Fair or Fawn in EDM in intensive. I'm as oily as the Gulf of Mexico, and I need a quite a bit of coverage because I've got hyper-pigmentation and generally uneven skin tone.

edited to add...I'm not so sure that I'm actually olive, I am really quite yellow.

thanks a lot!

For you I would start with Buttery Gold. I know you want heavier coverage, but maybe start at Medium and work your way up? It is harder to get the ratios right with the heavier foundation....or you could just dive in with the Heavy. I would try about 1:5 (for heavy....1:6 for medium) and add more white as needed. I think you will end up at about 1:6 or 7 in heavy. You may even need Yellow Booster.

thank you so much for your quick answer.
dumb question though - do i buy a sample of Buttery Gold and a sample of Ivory? Is that enough to try for a week or so?

Or do I just dive in with a starter kit?

Hi ladies,
I'm looking to start creating my own foundation, but I am at a bit of a loss of where to start. I don't feel like I fit into any of the categories!
I am NC20 in MAC (however this is a bit too yellow), with EM I was Fairly Light Neutral and Frisky Siamese in Meow. I was using medium coverage foundations!
I have rosacea which I cover up with a green concealer so I am not looking for anything which is pink!
I'd describe my skin as quite neutral - equal amounts of all colours (but maybe less pink!).

I'm definately not straight one colour - although I can get away with foundations more on a yellow side rather than another colour. If that makes sense?
Maybe Ebony with some Warm Gold and a bit of a green boost? No idea.

Looking forwards to hearing your ideas!!! :) Let me know if you'd like to see a picture :)
Thanks in advance!
