Europe - heads up to possible shipping delays

Post by Cupcake » Thu Apr 15, 2010 3:29 pm

I'm guessing you all know by now about the Iceland volcano which erupted and caused such an extensive ash cloud that, for the first time in history, all air travel in the UK, France, Belgium and Norway has been grounded. (Wow, did Heathrow airport look eerily quiet on the news tonight!) Much or all air travel across the North Atlantic has also been grounded for the same safety reasons (ash breaks jet engines and endangers aircraft).

Upshot - it could be several days before mail planes fly and carry our lovely parcels from SN, so I thought I'd mention it here before anyone comes looking for answers about why they haven't received parcels as quickly as expected. (And the European mail is still suffering from ferry strikes, *other* airline strikes, train strikes .... oh and more snow expected in the next few days to block the roads, too).

So unless they start sending mailed parcels by trans-atlantic rowing boat... I hope folks will give a little grace to businesses and understand that it'll take a bit longer to get the goodies.

Also all air travel in Sweden and denmark is grounded. I'm just glad I'm not going anywhere right now, the pictures from Arlanda (Stockholm) and Kastrup (Copenhagen) showed so many delays :?

No, No we need that cool star trek transporter thing. SN would just put the parcel in the machine, key in the destinations and bob's your uncle instant package.

Now I just to go talk to star trek and get them to invent it and we're all set right.........................Right!!!!!! :?

Haha I love it!! If we explained why we needed it invented so urgently I'm sure they'd get right on it!!

I think maybe we all just need to move into the suburbs surrounding SN, and then we can all hang around the factory drooling! Ooh, in fact, Karen could move to NZ, and then hire me as her magicians apprentice!

My friend flew to London on Tuesday night, she got really lucky! And hah, I wish I could have seen Heathrow empty, what a sight it must have been :)

Yeah, teleportation is starting to sound better and better. I love visiting my mom in Hungary, but hate the long-a$$ flight and misery. And now you can't even fly because of nature's kick in the butt... Makes you think, doesn't it: technology only goes so far ;)

So funny, I know all about the airports being closed and I live right next to Brussels Airport (next to the runway even) but it didn't even cross my mind my packages from the UK and the US would be stuck. It would have eventually, but thanks for thinking of this!
Now I know I won't be expecting them next week. Just praying they don't get lost in the chaos.

I must say my iHerb package made a trip around the world. Shipped from California to Auckland (NZ) then to Rotterdam (NL) and then to Brussels (B). Awesome trip!
