New here with random questions!

Post by shortcake » Wed Apr 07, 2010 3:57 pm

Hi everyone! I'm new here, but just last night I placed my 4th order within about 3 weeks! (And darnit, the one week that I didn't order was the one that the special edition GWP eyeshadow was offered!) Needless to say, I'm in love with Silk Naturals and am only sad that I didn't find it sooner. Like many of you, I'm a former EDM addict. Once it became very obvious that I wasn't real thrilled with the direction the company was taking and they removed the message board, I found myself losing interest in their makeup and without really realizing it, quit ordering from them. I was in the mood to order some new MMU and remembered an EDM forum member mentioning Silk Naturals to me, so I thought I'd check it out. I ordered an eyeshadow, a few blush samples, and a lippie, and I couldn't believe how amazing they were. I've since ordered several more lippes, eyeshadows, blush samples, skincare products, and a foundation sample kit.

I guess I'm mostly looking for recommendations in everything - blushes, eyeshadows, lippies, etc. In regards to lip glosses/sticks, I'm mostly looking for the lighter colors. Dark or extremely bright/vibrant shades just don't work for me. So far I own Foreplay (my favorite), XXX (almost an awesome lip-erasing nude for me but is too brown and taupe/grey), Maiden, Caramel, and Negligee (too dark). I have Gold Blush, Centerfold, and Bloom on the way. I just loooove the formula of these lippies and just want more!

As for eyeshadows, I'm pretty much open to anything except shades that have reddish in them as they clash with my coloring and make me look as though I've got allergy eyes. So far I've got Chills, Frills, Nekkid, Cashmere, Purrr, and Velocity. I guess "in general" I usually prefer neutrals - browns, beiges, golds, champagnes, etc. Also soft pinks and peaches.

I'm really loving the awesome array of peach, pink, and peachy/pink blush shades that SN has! I'm looking to delve into the other color families too though. So far I have Lovelace, Flare, Wish You Were Here, Poppy, Climax, and Heavenly, and I love them all! On the way I have Beach Bunny bronzer, Cherub glow, Satisfied, Halo, and Bronze Beauty.

Now comes my foundation questions. I had previously ordered a foundation sample kit. I could rule out Ebony and Deep Ebony right away, as any foundation with even the slightest bit of pink in it looks horribly off on me. I figured I'd be Warm Gold as I have a light tan right now and do get very golden when I'm tanned. So I tried that and I seemed to be on the right track but it looked a little TOO gold. So, since I can wear some of the olive shades in EDM and do see some green in my skin, I added a little Olive. I may have added too much but it made me look a little ashy. Soooo, since all that was really left was Peach, I added some of that and voila! I am much much closer. Unfortunately it still needs some tweaking and I'm out of my samples so I've ordered another sample kit. I'm thinking of leaving the Olive out this time and just trying Warm Gold and Peach. I'm going to attach some pictures at the end of my post so you have something to base suggestions on!

Also, in regards to foundation, which formula do most of you prefer? I wear foundation to even out my complexion. I don't have breakouts or any scarring I need to cover. So I don't need a ton of coverage, but I find that I have to apply three layers of the Original formula foundation from SN. I'm thinking of ordering my full sizes in the Medium coverage, but I just want to make sure it still looks natural in that formula!

Thanks so much everyone, and I apologize for such a long message! This is my first big post and I've built up a lot of questions in the last few weeks.

Please ignore the fact that my face looks lighter than the rest of me. This was taken with my phone and the flash ALWAYS does that! I promise I really match. haha

I definitely think the Medium Coverage is worth a sample in your case. It is roughly 2-3 layers of Original. You may end up preferring the layering look of the Original.

From the photos, I would have guessed Warm Gold. If you do take out the golden, it is pretty close to Peach. You may be exactly on the right track. Olive on its own might be good, too. Peach and Olive are super dark compared to Warm gold, so they will take quite a bit more white to get the color depth you need. Olive will be about 1:13, Peach about 1:16+, Warm Gold about 1:9
