Lippies Similiar to Tender (but a bit warmer)

Post by kinjali22 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 2:54 pm

Hi Ladies,

I'm on a mission to find some SN lippies that work for me. I love how they make my lips soft and really like the consistency. But I haven't been so lucky in finding colors that work for me. For reference my lips are naturally dark (with a hint of pink) and I'm neutral (tan olive) in coloring but tend look better in warm colors.

Colors that haven't worked for me are Cultured (show up lilacy on my lips/clashed with my skin coloring), Verve (way to bright/I can't pull off strong warm peach coral colors), Maiden (it was a little too neutral on my lips), Black Dahlia (way to pigmented/cool/purple on my lips).

Colors that have worked so far are Desire (maybe a touch too dark) and Tender (very pretty color, almost MLBB but a tad on the cool side). I was looking for a color similar to Tender, but a warmer pink... (maybe a warm berry pink/brown)? I think the reason why I can pull off Tender is because it has some brown to it and is somewhat neutral. What colors would you recommend based off this description?

Thanks!

maybe Polished Pink, Whirlwind or possibly Rhapsody. I don't have Rhapsody, but I have heard there is some brown in it. Whirlwind looks more mauvey online but IRL it has enough brown not to look purplish. Does that make sense? :? If you want samples let me know. I think I still have your address :)

Cultured does the same thing to me, makes me look grayish.

You may want to give Mimosa a try, it does have peach, but on me it doesn't come off peachy. I have pigmented lips and the pink seems to take over the peach. On me Berry Crush is on the cool side , but after about 20minutes it warms up. You could also try layering Gold Blush (or Precious) to warm things up.

Thanks for your replies ladies :)

lwoodall, hmmm.. is polished pink the same color depth as Maiden? I felt like Maiden, even though it was a pinky brown was still a little light for my lips. And, yes, that made sense :) Whirlwind does look really mauvey on the site. Does Whirlwind look rosey like IRL?

I was looking at Copper Rose, Rare Berry, Pout, Sweet heart and maybe Breathless and Nectar? Which of these colors would y'all recommend? Ackk, this is very confusing. I was actually really suprised that Tender worked for me so I'm going to try some colors I normally wouldn't try. hehehe.. you see what you started lwoodall :P

JenK... Berry crush does look interesting... it's def out of my comfort zone but so was Tender, and it worked out nicely :) I wonder if we have similiar lip coloring. What other colors have worked/not worked for you?

Nectar would be spot on.....warmer and a bit darker than Maiden....

I think Maiden may be a little more pink than Polished Pink. Maiden is a brighter pink on me compared to Polished Pink and to me when I wear Whirlwind I do see a rosey, but I think more brown/rose than rose/brown :? I'm thinking Copper Rose might be pretty too.

Thanks! Soo what lippie would be Tender's warmer cousin? I really love the color payoff (pigmented enough for my lips) but its a little too cool for me. Would Pout or Rare Berry be a warm equivalent of Tender?

I think Pout is definitely cooler......Rare Berry is not as brown....I consider it more of an orangish, slightly brownish pink. Rare Berry is brighter than Tender, but more orange and pink than Maiden.

Rare Berry is the color of a strawberry about a week before it's fully ripe...mix of yellow, red, orange and maybe a hint of brown. I have it, like it, but so far not my favorite, though it is the only one my husband mentioned liking w/o me asking. It is nothing like my lip color, so I think I just need to get comfortable w/ it. It will be a great spring/summer color. Caramel, Centerfold, Bobbi, Skinny Dip and turn about the same color on me, pinkish (my own lip color comes through). Fig Leaf turns a pink/purple. I have better luck w/ dark berry/ dark plum and reds. I've found Gold Blush lightly applied on top can save most colors. One color I never thought I would like as much as I do is Berry Nice (alone or w/ gold blush on top). On me it is a DARK Berry w/ a hint of red, nothing like the swatch. The lipsticks cover very well too, I have Sultry and Raisin. I am able to wear them in the day w/ no problems for a natural look. The wands cover well and aren't sticky at all (no worries about your hair sticking to your lips).
