What is Sparkle lip gloss really like?

Post by Oxana124 » Fri Feb 05, 2010 8:59 pm

So I have one on the way to me ( I ordered last night), so I'm sure I'll find out the answer to this for myself soon enough, but in the meantime I thought I'd ask about it (because you never know, it could help out someone else). What is the Sparkle lip gloss really like? I have heard that it is very sparkly, as the name would imply, and that it doesn't really lighten the lips or the color you layer it over so much but it does add sparkle to them. But then I remember hearing that it does lighten for some people, and on the website it looks white in the swatch, maybe frosty? Pehaps this varies by person. Is the shimmer fine shimmer or more glittery? Also, I have never seen swatches of it posted, are there swatches somewhere(I did see the one on the main website where you would go to buy it), or is it because it is too sheer to photograph? Also, is it similar to Gleaming but white instead of gold? Thanks! :)

It depends how you apply it really. One quick layer, it's just going to add a little shimmer. If you apply it thicker, it WILL lighten your lips a bit and if you apply it REALLY thick (thicker than i personally think anyone should) it can get downright frosty.

Thanks! That's really helpful!
I looked at Jen's swatches so many times, and I didn't even realise Sparkle was there, LOL. I think because it looks clear there that I didn't even notice it, because I was expecting to see white, like Karen's swatch on the main webpage.

I realized from the wishlists thread that you may be looking to use this as a sort of primer so thought i'd add that yes, i have used this under pale nude shade (like divine which would be like mirage) to make it a more true nudey pink. It does work for that.

It is alot like Gleaming but with white shimmer. I would not call it over the top sparkley. It does slightly lighten other colors, but it is not opaque.

Lip gloss swatches are hard to do. I think Karen does a swipe of gloss on a white card for the thumbnail swatch, but I really don't know for sure. The wearer's lip color comes so much into play, that the swatch is almost not helpful. The ones on skin don't really help that much, either, because noone has lips that pale. Also, cameras usually cannot capture the complexity of a color. I could do lip swatches, but they would not be helpful because my lips are pigmented and reddish-pink...even the browns show pink on my lips, and the pinks are just too pink. The description is much better at telling you how they will look. Lipstick swatches are more helpful because the colors are opaque enough to stay pretty true no matter who is wearing the lipstick.

I really like lip gloss skin swatches, esp. if it is a lot of colours together, because although they don't look like they do on my lips, if I have at least one of the other colours in the swatch then I can usually tell what they will look like on me, which I can't with white paper ones. I agree that lip swatches aren't that helpful, because your lip colour changes it soooo much. I have bought so many lippies based on how they look on other people, and been disappointed they looked awful on me :(

I agree I love seeing skin swatches, especially for comparing colors to each other.

And JenW I think your swatches are awesome, I hope you did not think I meant anything otherwise, I just meant that I was expecting a white color, so that's why I didn't notice Sparkle at first because it is very sheer.

I am so amazed how the lippies look on different people. I agree, JenW's swatches really do help, plus Karen's detailed description. A few I ordered are so my fault for not really reading and just going by the swatch. My problem is most turn pink on me after about 30 minutes, a lilac pink. Must be my own lip color coming though as the gloss heats up and reacts w/ me. Strange, Black Dahlia is one of the more natural looking ones on me. The sheer colors turn out the darkest. Guess I need to buy one each!!!
