Neutral Wash colour help please!

Post by la_canadiense(01) » Wed Jan 13, 2010 12:19 pm

I am looking for a colour rec. I have looked through all the e/s about a million times, and I just cannot find the colour I am looking for.
I want a very neutral cream colour. Not to light, not too dark (I know this is objective), but I don’t want it just as a hilight, but something like Vanilla, is too light and for everyday it just lightes up my eye area and brow bone too much.
I don’t want any gold or pink in it, both thoes colours in moderation are fine for me, but I am looking for a full on wash that will be neutral or beige.
I have looked through the forum. The best contender was boom but I have started thinking it will be too gold. Bare *might* work but I am looking for less shimmer, and maybe less dark…or I cannot really tell how dark it is, the swatch looks dark-ish…., maybe a satin texture to it (from what I can tell, Cream is very light, a Vanilla - but different texture), not completely matte but not shimmery….
Any ideas? I’d really prefer to buy from SN. I am just so happy with SN quality, I don’t want to waste my time looking elsewhere…
Was there a similar colour before that has since been discontinued? Maybe someone has somehting that they could swap?
Argh….I guess worse comes to worse I will go back to my bourjois one (Rose Beige #8)below, but I wasn’t mad about it, but that is the perfect colour for me, perfect in tone and shimmer. In fact, maybe Karen you can dupe this one? I know bourjois is technically not a highend product (sold in pharmacy) but they are 6-7 euros for the single colours, not exactly cheap for what you get. This colour is always sold out, and they always carry more of this colour than any other colour in store for bourjois.
Well just a thought I guess….
:?
If anyone can recommend an SN colour I’d be forever grateful!!! ;)
Thanks

I can swatch them together so you can see how they look, althoug I am rather warm toned.

I think Quartzite will be too gold, on me it has strong gold undertones.

Isn't it funny how different skintones make such a difference. Quartzite show almost lavender on me. Either way it is definitely not the color, now that I have swatched it.

I tried taking pic's but my old camera just can't capture the color good enough.

The first thing I thought of when seeing that pic even before reading your comments was Boom. I don't think it has too much gold in it at all, it's the best base color and highlighter when I want a no-brainer. I barely use Vanilla, while Boom is almost all gone. I tried Bare, and didn't really work out for me: it was just kinda dead looking. I also like Purr, but it may be too much on the sparkly side. It's a nice barely pink/tan color though. On my eyes, Nekkid comes out as a really strong and kinda dark orange pink, but that's just me.

BTW, I used to use bourjois before I switched to minerals, they have some very lovely colors: singles and trios too. They sell them at Sephora here.

Hi lwoodall10, thanks for that! I understood quartzite to be quite gold/coppery, or warm, as BFA mentioned, although that is so strange it shows up as lavender on you! it really is so bazarre that MMU can look so different on everyone! I do have it on my wishlist, but for other purposes than for the neutral wash I am looking for.
I think Nekkid would also be to pinky for me. I have purr, and it is a nice colour (too brite for my purposes here) but I can only use it on my lid because if I go any higher, the pink pulls 'something' in my skin and really makes them red and it looks like I have been crying, and I think Nekkid is also meant to be a pinky colour. So I wanted a more neutral/beige colour that I can use on the brow bone.......but thanks for the suggestions! you seem to have loads of colours :P

egerandi , I guess you have convinced me! since that is the colour i was thinking about I was initially thinking about anyhow.... And since MMU can be so different on everyone, i have no way of knowing how it might look on me until I try it.
I actually quite like bourjois, it has some cute things, and they currently have new trio sets for eyes, they are super cute, but i am desperately trying to downsize my non-MMU makeup. :)

Another vote for Boom......but I will go take a look at the satin finish ones....maybe Posh?

ETA...Posh was too golden..... I am thinking Boom or Quartzite would work....They are pretty similar. Quartzite is a hair darker and warmer.

Did you see the swatch on this page?

Gosh that's a pretty color. It's funny Borjois is high-end over here. In Europe you can find that and Nivea just about anywhere- but here you have to go to Sephora or Ulta and it sits among the other high-end brands. I'll take a peak at it next time I'm at Ulta. I'm thinking you might like Boom..but it is a little on the warmer side (at least on me).

I use Boom for this all the time. It is a little yellow/gold and it is warm, but not extremely so - it's more tan or beige. It is a neutral color and works perfectly as a one-color wash for me.

Regarding Purr: this would also be a good option, *provided you have pink in your skin tone*. Purrr is a color I intended to use in a similar way to Boom, but once I got it on, it looked really pink and kinda warmish, and didn't work at all in the same way. I think Boom is much more neutral than Purrr.

Also: Nekkid is very similar to Purrr in this regard, though if you had the right warm peach skin tone it might be ok.

I agree, it's quite gold for a "neutral". I wear gold all the time but Quartzite is too warm for me. It almost looks orange.
