Received my order! :D Now need help!

Post by JannyGirl » Sun Dec 27, 2009 11:06 pm

I received my order and I am so excited! I have to commend the SN team for super fast service ~ thank you so much!

Now I am feeling overwhelmed about doing my first color mix. I was an EDM user and I can tell you more of what color I was not. A little background: I had somehow eased into shades that were a little too dark prior to my move to MMU, which means my first choices were probably too dark. I did order EDM's Cool Fair with my first order, but dismissed it as too light probably because I had become accustomed to seeing myself in a darker shade. I wore Cool Fair Medium for sometime, but it was definitely way too dark and too pink for my skin. Here is some of what else I tried:

Multi-Tasking - too dark; perhaps too peachy(?)

Buff Fairly Light Neutral - too dark; too yellow

Buff Perfect - too dark (don't recall about the tones)

Beige Fairly Light - too dark; probably too pink

Sandy Fair - too white

Buff Linen - was probably a good intensity for me, but I later realized, after wearing it for some time, that it was definitely too yellow for me.

There were others....I just don't recall. It's actually been a long time since I ordered from them, but I was going through some of my old samples and minis.

Currently trying Cool Fair again to try to re-adjust my eye to a lighter tone. I used to always be the lightest shade possible when I wore Lauder foundation years ago, but my skin tone has changed some over the years.

I am cool or neutral toned; fair complected, but will burn then tan. Light to medium ash brown hair w/blonde highlights (used to be lighter); tealish eyes (blue w/yellow specks) and look good in teal, cool toned pinks, shades of blue, yellow (as long as it's not a gold toned yellow) and purple. Also look good in a cool toned red.

This is what I ordered:
Sample *Kit* Original Coverage Ivory
Sample Medium Coverage Ivory *Only*
Sample Ebony foundation *Only*
Sample Glow Foundation Base
Sample Ultimate Luxury Treatment Powder
Pure- clear Black Label Lippie
Plain Lip Balm
Long Handled Baby Kabuki Brush

I mixed EDM's Intensive & Original Glo, so I am wondering if I should use the SN Medium Coverage + a scoop or two of Glow Base or some Original, some Medium Coverage + a scoop or two of Glow? Please help with recs for a mix for me! I am glazed over!

Thanks so much in advance!

~Jan :)

Btw, I love, love, love the Pure- clear Black Label Lippie & Plain Lip Balm! Almost ordered Lip Balm for family members and wish I had. Hmmm...guess another order will be upcoming soon! ;)

LOL on the lip balm - I tend to nearly eat my Southern Praline one, so probably just as well you ordered the unflavoured :)

I'd start with the original foundation mix - it's easiest to find your match that way. Maybe go 12 ivory to 1 ebony to start - and don't judge by what it looks like in the jar - you need to swatch it on your face and let it sit for fifteen or twenty minutes to see how the match is because in the jar it will look almost pure white - it's not at all representative of how it will look on you.

Now, that may be too dark for you, but it's easier to lighten than darken so that's why I'm suggesting doing it that way. I'm pretty pale as well, and I'm about 16 - 1 ivory to ebony. But it's easy to lighten scoop by scoop if you need to. I didn't take the lightest shade in Estee Lauder - that was a little yellow on me. But there was a second-level one that was cooler toned so that suited - I don't remember what the number was, but it was better than looking jaundiced and was nearly a match.

This whole foundation thing is a lot easier than it sounds, btw - but do write down your mix so you can remember it! Also, just for reference, 16 scoops is 1/2 teaspoon in normal measure - once you get the hang of it and want to do a full batch.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you, Rhys! :) So I should not add Glow Base at this time then?

The Lauder I used definitely was not yellow...it had a color name...that was back in the day. More recently I wore a mousse make-up of theirs, but cannot remember the name. Oh well, don't know that it would help anyway.

You know what's frustrating? I used to sell makeup and I was excellent at color matching! :o I feel like I've lost my knack...or perhaps it's just difficult to be objective about myself.

Anyway, thank you so much! I am excited to try out my items tomorrow!

I think Ebony is a good place to start. I think that 1:12 might be a little too light...... Yes, you can add in some glow base, now.

I would start with 1 Ebony: 2 Glow: 6 or 7 Medium Coverage.......

Jen, This just a preliminary report....I used the 1 Ebony: 2 Glow: 6 Medium Coverage mix today and we are on the right track in terms of skin tones, but this may have been a bit light? Will give it another go or two (or three). I may also want a bit more glow base. I will try to get pix ...my daughter has the digital camera atm.

I have enough samples to do a mix with original formula and I think I might like to try that as well. I'd like to try the Original since it has a higher silk content. My skin was dry today, for some reason, even before applying the mix. So, what ratio would you suggest using the Original Ivory plus some glow with Ebony?

TIA!

You tried about 1:8 overall before......If you want more Glow and for it to be slightly darker....try 1Ebony: 3Glow : 4 Medium Coverage or 1Ebony: 3Glow : 5Original
