I received my first SN lip color...

There is no really good way to do lippie swatches. I have been trying to some up with something that would be more helpful. Everyone's natural lip color is just as varied as skintone....perhaps even more. On lip swatches only help if they are on a person with similar lip color and skintone. The swatches I do just show the differences between them. Lighting also plays a huge role in how swatches come out as well as the type of camera. I am sorry that the lippie did not come out on you like the swatch, but I am kind of fairish on that part of my arm and most people don't have fair lips. On lip swatches on me would also be off....my lips are medium pink/red. Even browns look kind of reddish on me. I guess what I am trying to say is that swatches help to show what a product looks like, but can never do justice to how they will look in person.

I am guessing you have a fair amount of pigment in your lips. I do, too. Honestly, you just have to try a few. It is part of the reason they are returnable. I do have to say, I have expanded the normal colors I wear which has been kind of fun.

I totally understand about the difficulty of lip swatches and how lip pigmentation varies. The Foreplay I received looks brick red in the tube though, so I don't think it would look like a light peachy-pink even on colorless lips. Do the batches of lip color sometimes vary a lot?

I guess I'm trying to figure out if any of the colors are a light peach color or peach-pink in the tube, not too sheer so it shows up over my own lip color, with no red in it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try go for the much lighter or neutral/nude colours for the peach. Maybe even a little bit of gold? Gold Blush actually looks good and Precious -maybe-. Centrefold, Pout, or Modern Poet/Pink Lady lip gloss.

Thank you Jessica! I was actually looking at Gold Blush last night wondering if it might work since I have a lot of pigment in my lips.

I take back what I said about the color of Foreplay. It does look brick red in the tube, but when I did a swatch comparison on my arm, it does look a lot like Jen's swatch. I think it's just a lot more sheer than I was expecting and it lets too much of my lip color through. It looks pretty on my arm though. I wish I had colorless lips. The swatch of Foreplay on my arm looks a lot like my EDM Missing Socks lip gloss. I bought 7 of those when they were discontinued, and use it on top of a lot of my other lip colors to tweak them.

I hope this doesn't come across wrongly, but it did cross my mind to ask if you had tried it or if you were just going by the colour in the tube. Thing is, that's not uncommon. A lippy like Damsel looks like shocking electric pink in the tube but on the lips, a soft sheer wash of bubblegum pink. Quite a few look dark in the tube but are actually quite sheer in reality. It's only the opaque colours like the lipsticks which tend to be entirely the same in the tube and in swatches because there's no light passing through them ever, so it never looks darker in the thickness of the tube or lighter when sheer.

If your natural lip colour is too dark, there are tricks to lighten it. I think someone's already mentioned using XXX lippy as a lip base. Otherwise, to have a lippy - I'm thinking that you're looking for something roughly the colour of Peace? - then you'd need a truly opaque lipstick formula to blank-out cover the deeper colour of your lips and still retain it's own colouring. That can be quite hard to find. If XXX doesn't work for you, I'm not sure what to suggest but I do hope that you find something that you enjoy wearing. Best of luck with it.

Oh no, I definitely tried it on - several times actually! And it does look exactly like the same red brick color on my lips like it is in the tube. I know colors can look different on, but I don't think I've had one that looks so different on my lips and in the tube compared to the swatch I did on my arm.

Which SN formula is the most opaque? Or does it just depend on the individual color?

They are the newest addition to the lippies, so there are only a handful of colours so far and they tend to be quite dark. If you add a request in the wishlist section for Karen, she might be able to make something that will suit you better. Can't hurt to ask at least.

I have foreplay lip color and I don't remember it being brick red color. Let me see if I can find it, my co-worker kept telling me she was going to take it ,so i am not sure if I still have it!! lolzzz!!!

Mine doesn't look brick red. Rarely (once, and do remember that I probably own a couple hundred SN e/s's and 60 or so lippies), I've got something that was mislabelled. I ordered some Bare once and got Bone with a Bare label, and earlier today, Cupcake was saying that Basalt is charcoal. It's jet black on me, and when I swatched it next to Raven this afternoon, they're the same colour - so that one might be a mislabel, too.

I pulled out Foreplay - and also my reds, just for comparison. I don't have a camera, but Foreplay looks like a slightly shiny medium warm reddish-pink in the tube, not brick. The reds - a couple of those I could see as brick, but they're a good deal darker. So maybe that's what happened? Again, I've only had it happen once - maybe twice - but it could be.
