Don't underestimate good stencils!

I have a set that are completely unuseable. There are three different ones, and how they work is that they're open where your eyebrows are supposed to be - and completely closed around that. So how you'd go about shaping your eyebrows with them is utterly beyond me. You can hold one onto your eyebrow - the one that's the closest fit - but you wouldn't be able to do anything with tweezers if you had hairs outside that.

And, of course, if your eyebrows don't quite match any of the stencil models - uhh - the 'completely drawn on eyebrows' look isn't what most of us are going for, either.

I have NO IDEA how to work around that one. I like the concept of stencils, but....there's a design flaw in there that I'm not sure how to correct.

BTW - the post is still slow as treacle here - can't wait to get the new products to review them (I won't freak until it's been more than six weeks - your dollar is way down again, so everyone is buying American here).

I may be back in NYC soon - and looking for another surgeon. Apparently my operation didn't solve the problem. Blech. If you know any good endocrine doctors in your neck of the woods, give me a shout! I'll get to Ithaca yet

You know, Rhys, you are *right* about the design flaw w/stencils, ROFGiggling!!! How to pluck under plastic, hmmmm. I am self-conscious about my brows...they really *do* become unruly with age, sigh. My workaround method is that handy-dandy Emjoi Petite Facial Care Model AP-91 that I bought from the Q a few yrs ago. It at least mows down the wild stuff,lol. The plucking that gets done is minimal, mostly because when you really NEED to pluck, the ol' eyesight's gone! Probably I just need a guideline for where/how my brows should be shaped. Embarrassing that I haven't seen/read a beauty mag in years...it's obvious!

Mikie- from meeting you I would have guessed you had read stacks of magazines! I just called the supplier on the stencils, and kind of mentioned the design flaw, and she said that when they come- the part that's punched out is included, so you can hold it up and pluck around it. It sounds like that requires a bit more coordination than I personally have- but I can see where it would be handy.

I'm going to order a few sets and see how they work!

I must agree that there seems to be a design flaw! I have looked into these kits myself in the past, but more for information on how to shape my flat brows.

In my understanding of the stencils, you also need a white brow pencil to draw in the shape. Then you use your tweezers or other implement to trim outside the line. I have never done it myself.

I don't pluck/tweeze/use stencils but i THINK the way you're supposed to use them is maybe to hold the stencil where you want, color in the eybrow, remove the stencil and then pluck whatever didn't get colored? just a thought... I still think if I was going to use that route, i'd end up using a color i couldn't miss (like black) which obviously i would not wear out in public. lol.'

I have brown hair (which you can all see in the picture) but my eyebrows are pretty blonde and in the summer they totally bleach out.

I have a set of stencils. I did not pay much money for it. My instructions say to colour in the brow area then pluck the stray ones. The thing is the shapes doesn't really match me.

I tint my brows. It wears off and sometimes I don't tint as soon as I should. When that happens I should use a brow powder. I would be interested in a brow powder. I am blonde and would be looking for a brown. If there is already an eye shadow suitable I will add that to my next order.

I use clear mascara to keep brows in place.

I do use an eyebrow razor (purchased from another MMU company) and it is great for getting those small fine hairs that you can't see to pluck.

My eyebrows don't fit any of the stenci shapes either. That's the problem - when they're as far off as mine are, you get the drawn-on-eyebrows look. Something I remember with horror from my childhood, because that's what the fashionable ladies were doing then.

The first time I saw it was on a bank teller when I was about eight. She must've shaved her eyebrows and drawn them on with some kind of wax pencil - though I didn't realise it at the time. Just that they were melting off and running down her face.

It took weeks to get over that one!

Sam you're back! I was getting a little worried- I thought maybe Tim Gun kidnapped you and swept you away to design for Liz Clairborne! Are you an East Coaster again, and ready to tackle the world of high fashion??

I ordered some stencils- when they come in if I can manage to not look goofy when I try them I'll put them on the site! I'm painfully *not* good with brows- so if I can manage anyone should be able to.
