I know lots of people use jojoba oil but has anyone tried coconut oil? I have a whole jar of it and coconut oil has a 5 year shelf life. I think it would be amazing but I've never even tried to press my shadows before.
This is the palette I want to get.

Re: Pressing minerals with coconut oil?
What form of cocnut oil do you have? There are some that change to liquid form once the temperature warms, and solid when it is cooler. Or do you mean Fractionated Cocnut Oil? The Fractionated stuff should work, and I think I have seen it used before. Pressing is really a mad scientist experiment.....you have to be very careful not to overwet. I would say you could always give it a try with an eyeshadow that is one of your least favorites...or at least one you can easily replace if the experiment goes badly. Before investing a ton of money in a palette, you might think of emptying a palette you have at home and cleaning it very well. Then give it a go and see if you like the results. Remember that the eyeshadows will likely darken a little, and apply differently.

Re: Pressing minerals with coconut oil?
If it's virgin coconut oil that's solid at room temp there's so many uses for it that I think I'd probably save it for that...it's nice just rubbed on skin, as a hair treatment etc- and you can EAT it too! I give little bits of it to the dogs too, and their coats are beautiful.
Jen's right- it is a mad scientist project- one that can be awesome if you get it just right, but it can be a frustrating project. I have a supplier who's supposed to be coming out with some neat pressing tools etc- I haven't seen what she'll be offering, but I'd be tempted to wait until after the holidays to see if they come out with something that will be more user friendly than what's available at the moment.
