Primers, primers?

Hi!

Does anyone use primers? My face isn't an oil slick like it used to be, but my foundation still builds up in my smile lines and its very bothersome for me. The only thing that worked, like really actually truly worked, was Benefit's Dr. Feelgood. I used it for two days then returned it, as it just felt gross on my face (like my face couldn't breathe), and I didn't like the ingredients. I have tried the perfecting powder as a primer and a setter, but my makeup still slides into the creases.

I don't mind using silicones. Have tried:
Lancome La Base Pro, too oily/slick, still gets in my smile lines
Dr. Feelgood, thick, congesting
Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer, very expensive works okay, but still have to blend my smile line build up, feels good though
Tarte Clean Slate, still testing... nice ingredient list though

I am considering Avon Magix. I would really like one that is colorless upon application, the primer from Rimmel when tested on my hand made it "bronzey/orangey."

Regarding the regular foundation vs. vegan formulas.... since the silk brings moisture to the skin (is that right?) would the vegan formula not, or at least not as much? I wonder if that would help, just brainstorming here.....

Have you tried the zinc powder? It feels wonderful as a primer and gives a small degree of sun protection. It's very sheer (white), but you can add just a touch of your color base if you want to darken it a bit. I'm medium-fair and use it as-is as primer and perfecting powder.

buy sililca spheres and boron nitride from coastalscents.com. put a teensy bit of mica in if youd like a dewiew glow, and voila. a priming/finishing powder. i get compliments all the time.

I'm using a mix of Monistat chefing gel(for the silicones), raspberry oil (my skin loves it and it provides skin protection), the SN zinc finishing powder (great primer in itself, I just need more as my skin also tends to react with the minerals) and some Tempt Tryst for coloring. You said you wanted colorless, but I tend to add a bit of TT, otherwise the amount of Zinc in the mix can make for a ghosty face This also evens out my skintone a bit in case I want to go foundationless. The chafing gel in itself is a great primer too - if you can't find it locally, try Amazon.com or Drugstore.com.

As I was balacing out my oiliness and becoming less dehydrated, I was using a blend of Blur (for the silica) and pure Silk Powder (for the sumptuous nourishment and velvety feel). That worked great. Silicones don't agreed with me - everything like Smashbox Photofinish Primer through to Avon Magix, it feels heavy on my skin after the feather-light textures of custom blending your own primers. A lot of people love 'cones but I'm in that bracket that find they get blocked pores and breakouts quickly and just feel like my skin is smothered.

It's really worth investing in a couple samples of Blur and Pure Silk Powder, and the Zinc powder if possible. Between the goodies in these products, your skin should feel cushioned and comforted. The other way to tackle fine lines is to make sure your skin is as hydrated as it can be and perhaps target these concern areas with a stronger hydrating serum? It'd be great if Karen could make an extra-concentrated gelled serum "Super Duper Serum" for the delicate under-eyes and the early fine lines - most of which are through dehydration.

Ooh yes! Indeed it does, nice thinking Egerandi Does wonders on my ole' crinkly bits Lasts 5-6 hours, sadly not permanent, but just enough to get you through an evening out.

I have tried the zinc powder when my skin was out of whack and found it to be very chalky/drying on me. I still have my sample, so will be testing that out!

It seems like in many silicone primers, silica is in that, and i know its an oil absorber. I will consider getting the silica spheres and boron nitride. Maybe I can mix it with a little moisturizer and put that on my problem area.

You know, I have a sample of Blur in my cart because of the silica. I already do have a fullsize of Silk Powder but found it confusing to use (as in I wasn't sure what to use it for ) Also, I knew that silicones arent absorbed into the skin, that they just sit on top, but it really didn't occur to me that they would be blocking pores, but of course, that makes perfect sense.... so, arrrgh silicones!!

I still have a little of my sample, but found it to be fairly tightening. I will think about that one, thanks

I use the Monistat sometimes and it works, generally I’m just to lazy to bother and I like silk powder for a primer. My favorite primer is the Body Shops “Matte It”, really great for eyes.
