Fair green eyed brunette, weird undertones seeks color help

Post by Aurora » Sun May 25, 2008 2:54 pm

Well, that kinda says it all. I have been trying to figure out this MMU (or MU for that matter) business for the past ten years, without too much luck. Basically, most thing looks off in some way or another.

I have been the pale girl all my life, but due to a lot of traveling in the past year I have some color which is pale for most, but tanned for me. My veins on the inside of my wrists are blue, but others, and particularly on the top of my hands are green. Pinkish foundations look horrid, as do anything to yellow. SN is a life saver for doing the mix for yourself option.

After all that babbling comes the question: Any blush, lippie, shadow recs?
I never wear shadow, because by default it looks like I have a black eye. I am in need of some serious help, mavens!

(Apologies for the horrid English, I am Norwegian. )

Hello Aurora! Welcome to the forum!!!

Your English is absolutely great, and I have no problem understanding you perfectly! It sounds as though you are pretty neutral in undertone. You should be able to pick and choose colors to your liking, but definitely stick to the lighter ones since you are very fair. For one who is very fair, I would stick to our Sheer Blushes.
Sheer Blushes - Flirt, Jamie, Cheeky, Sassy, Petal, Maybe Baby (mattes)
Foxxy, Bronzed Beauty, Climax (shimmers)
(Cheeky is probably the lightest and is pink. Any of the above should work. Make sure you evenly load your brush and tap it off before applying.)
For lighter eyeshadows, start in our highlighters category. For an eyeliner, you might want to go with Slate or Mocha.

For lippies the lightest is Gold Blush. Toffee and Pout are also fairly light in color. Damsel is another sheer light pink.

Hi,
This is going to sound like a strange question- but do you look Scandanavian (good bone structure, and almond shaped eyes)? My husband is Finnish, and they do have slightly different undertones than I've seen anywhere else in the world- it's kind of cool and golden at the same time. For blush- Climax, Lovelace, maybe Tart Light or Pretty Plum- and Jen's suggestion for Flirt is a good one too. Lippies???- gosh there's getting to be a lot of them- but I don't think you could go wrong with something like Pout or Gold Blush. If you want to try an eye shadow Wink Wink is my fave for girls who aren't into eye shadow- just the slightest wash is pretty, and very simple!

Yay more Scandinavians! :D I'm from Denmark myself, though I live in Australia now. I'm also really fair naturally, though living in Brisbane means I always have a bit of a tan. I would second The suggestions for a soft/light pink/rose blush shade. My first samples of SN blush are on their way to me now as are my first pink lippies (I have birthday suit, but can only wear it with a tan), so don't know yet which specific shades, but I have an inkling that Climax will be pretty good (for reference, currently my 'everyday blush' is using my sample of lumiere's neutral pink).
With ES, I find these days that I really like taupes. Taupe is a colour sort of in between brown and grey, sometimes with a bit of other colour thrown in (like a hint of purple or green). Browns can be ok too, as long as they are cool (a bit greyish) rather than warm. I also really like to have shadows that are like my eye colour mixed with grey, so like a green-grey for you.
I am by no means an expert, so take any suggestions with a grain of salt :)
Oh, and your English is all good.

Maybe that's why I always have trouble finding a match! I am definitely a cool girl in some ways (the whole 'coral and gold makes blue eyes stand out thing? no way, they make me look like I haven't slept for days), but have been suggested foundies with a bit of yellow/golden as well as pink.

Ooh, should have waited for even more suggestions! I made another order, in addition to my foundie and a few somethings that have slipped my mind, and got a few blush samples, the cool glam kit, and some lippies. I think I at least got Flirt, Climax, Pout and.. Wll, I forget.

Great suggestions, thanks to all of you.

Karen, that is very interesting. There is something in my tone that makes me look eiter ashy or sallow when wearing foundation, maybe this is the mixed undertones instead of being a true neutral? I do not see much pink or blue in my complexion, yet I am by no means a warm or yelllow. And not really beige either. If there was something called a slightly golden neutral, perhaps. Mixing foundation should prove very interesting.

Maggishness: I am trying to find a way out of this rainy or snowy hole myself, though I might head babck to Cambodia. Brisbane has quite a few Scandinavians, no?

I'm not Scandinavian, but I have the pale/cool/golden thing going too (the pic was taken with a dark background and the only light on was on the other side of the room, plus I did my makeup darker than I usually do - with regular makeup, me and pictures - it's downright scary).

Anyway - you could pick up a sample kit of the foundation, and try adding in just a touch (not even a full scoop) of the Warm Gold - you'd need so little of it that the sample would last you a year or two, I think. It's worked for me, anyway.

Blushes, I tend to stay on the cool side, but I can pull off a few of the warmer ones when I have a little colour - like Bronze Beauty and Rich. Climax works for me, but Lovelace is way too warm. Forbidden works, but Vixen is way too warm. Get the fibreoptic blush brush!!!!!!! You'll even be able to wear the formerly scary dark colours because it gives you such good control - you can simply dot on a few grains with it.

As for eyeshadows - I love to go nuts, myself. But the taupes and highlighter colours should look great on you, as well as greens and plums - especially the lighter greens like Pixie and Charmed. Moss I've found to be a terrific liner colour, ditto Mink (kind of a brown/plum/gold).

Well, I'm certainly not scandinavian but I AM slightly golden neutral :) I have fair golden undertones and peachypink overtones. I generally go for foundations that match my undertone but are neutral enough not to clash with my overtone. cool foundations WAAAAAY ash me out and if a neutral isn't beige enough, it'll ash me out too. In Silk Naturals my blend is somewhere around 10base/ivory-1 buttery-.5 warm golden. If you're cooler than I am you might want to reverse the buttery and the warm golden. I found the warm golden to be pretty neutral.

some of the "goof proof" shades that work on EVERYBODY are gold blush and pout lippies, flirt and climax blush (and i love sassy and cocoaberry which are both sheer blushes but you might be surprised what blushes you can wear with a good stiff fiber optic), and quartzite is a reeeeeally gorgeous eyeshadow even if it is kinda drab in the jar. Hope you LOVE everything you get :)

After reading this thread, I tried mixing a bit of warm gold into my foundation mix yesterday (about 1/2 scoop WG, 4 scs white in a mix that was about 1 1/2 sc Ebony, 12 sc white) and it worked a bit better than normal, but was now a bit too yellow rather than a bit too ashy. Will have to try and fine tune (which will be hard, seeing how I'm almost out of white, should have gotten a refill bag in my last order).

Aurora: People always think I'm crazy when I say this, but I actually prefer Scandinavian weather to Brisbane weather overall. This time of year Brisbane is nice, but all through summer it's way too hot and humid for me.

Well, strange skin strikes again. My goodies came today (both orders on the same day, yay!) and as I am cool in all over colouring I started with 1 ebony, 6 ivory. It was a bit off, so I added half a scoop of warm, before starting over again using only warm and white. It looks like we have a match! It still looks a wee bit ruddy, so I might put some golden in for good measure. And to think I have been using pinkish foundies all my life.. Oy, best not to think about it.

I adore the lippies! They all work, (Pout, Gold blush, breathless, foreplay) exept for Swept away, that one is too cool or something rather. I might layer it with Foreplay and see what happens.

Sleep in a jar is good, but my circles are more greenish, so I think the salmon one coming out will be a must try. And cashmere is downright lovely for an eyeshadow novice.
