I want it all... Help me. Please.

Post by Velli » Wed Sep 30, 2009 7:16 pm

Good evening to you all,

I'm new to silk naturals, I'm about to make my second order and I can say without a doubt; I'm an Addict.

I've always been a "basic" kinda girl when it comes to make up. Foundation, mascara, lipbalm, done. I have however always had problematic skin, so foundation had always been a nessecity for me unfortunately. The road to finding my HG foundation has been very long, very expensive, and sometimes quite painful too.

But no more of that. Silk Naturals foundation, wow, just WOW. I've been wanting to rave about this the moment I've put it on and looked in a mirror. My skin looked flawless! And I could get it to match my tan olive golden undertoned asian skintone perfectly, it just looked like my own skin. But I didn't want to get too excited just yet, cause often enough I would wake up with painful break outs caused by foundation.

Four weeks later, my skin is almost clear, I'm really besides myself with joy, I could just cry. I think SN played a great part in this. Now that I'm not clogging and irritating my face anymore with all sorts of foundations, the good skin care regimen, diet and exercice could finally take its effect. So Karen, thank you thank you thank you!!

Omg, I sound like an infomercial. Sorry for this. Back to the problem; addiction.

Now that I don't have to worry about my skin as much, I've had some free time on my hands, and started playing with the freebies that were sent along with the foundation. And now I want more.

I have been on the site for hours literally, browsing the forum for suggestions and just throwing stuff in my cart. At check out I suddenly had a moment of clarity and realized I can't afford all of this! I've been over the list many times trying to eliminate products and just ended up putting more stuff in! So I need help.

I think I can cut down on the blushes, in my cart: satisfied, embrace, gemini, galaxy, crinoline, forbidden and vino. What do you girls think?

The lippies I reduced to: hot blooded, aria and mirage. I thought i'd try all three formula's in a red, pink and nude. I already have caramel, how similar is that one to mirage?

Glows: Pristine, Halo, Liberty

Finishing powders: Love lure, tempt tryst

I also have eyeshadows, brushes, oc primer, oc blur, serums, kiss cleanser and of course foundation in there. But I'm quite certain I want those. As you can see quite a list, mostly samples, but added up quite expensive. So could you help me eliminate some? Maybe throw in some other suggestions?

Sorry for the looong post, I'm just so glad I found silk naturals and really can't wait till I get my hands on all of the good stuff!

Thanks in advance!

Without a picture, it's hard to tell what's not going to mesh with your skintone but it sounds like your a med-dark warm complexion?

satisfied (peachy pink), embrace(mauve), gemini(med cool red), galaxy(warm red shimmer), crinoline(warm red shimmer), forbidden(deep red) and vino(Burgundy).

ummmm.... That's a whole lotta red. red red and red. Since you're trying to cut back, i would say skip gemini and embrace(they're cool and you're warm), pick either crinoline or galaxy but not both (they're very similar, crinoline has more shimmer). That will take you down to 4 blushes.
The lippies I reduced to: hot blooded, aria and mirage. I thought i'd try all three formula's in a red, pink and nude. I already have caramel, how similar is that one to mirage?

Mirage and caramel are different. Mirage is going to lighten your lipcolor some. I think your strategy to try 3 formulas and 3 depths is a sensible one.
Glows: Pristine, Halo, Liberty
Liberty and halo are both yellow/gold. Liberty is the more subtle of the two and crowd favorite. Pristine is a bit extra sparkly though a great color.
Finishing powders: Love lure, tempt tryst
Love Lure is matte tan, tempt tryst is subtle gold glowiness. Both will look nice.
If you don't have a synthetic brush, you definitely need one. However, the essential ones are a foundation brush (i like the flattop), and eyeshadow brush (the ultimate eyeshadow brush rocks) and some kind of blush brush (the fiberoptic generally works well for both blushes and glows). You can do without any others- or at least put them off for a special treat.

The skincare and foundation are obvious choices and stay in the cart.

Depending on how many shadows you chose, most of the ladies here could probably help on that list.

Wow, thanks Samantha, that was really helpful!

Yes I'm a med-dark, but I think I'm more of a neutral, I can wear both cool and warm colors. My foundation mix is 3 Ivory: 1BG : .25OLive : .25Ebony

Haha, yes the reds! I usually wear pinks and i thought i'd try something a little more bold this time. So I think I'm gonna go with: galaxy, forbidden, vino and satsfied.

For the glows I'll keep liberty and pristine.

Yes I already have the ultimate eyeshadow brush and the fiberobtic in my cart! The eyeshadow one looks so cool, I never wore eyeshadow before, can't wait to try them! I really liked the Bobbi brown stonewashed nude pallet, but unfortunately can't afford all of them. So I chose basalt, slate and moonstone. But i can choose 2 more eyeshadows with my order! What colours would go with the ones I already have? Not something nessecarily out of the kit, maybe something with more color? I was thinking about Idolize, Beach Plum or Caperberry.

I already have the EDM flattop for the foundation. Is that one similar to the SN one? And do you think I need 2 fiberoptics for both the blushes and glows?

And my last question, which one do you like more: aria or rhapsody?

Thank you so much in advance!

You can probably answer that one best yourself.....do you like pink (Aria) better or more of a nude brown (Rhapsody)?

Sam is great with product recommendations! I love how she puts all of the pics in....

I am not sure Vino will show up that well on you....you might want to sub that out for another. I vote for putting Embrace back in since cool tones work for you.

For eyeshadow, I noticed you have quite a few darker colors. Do you wear a lighter color up to your brow? Idolize is kind of an amped up version of Slate. Slate is more basic, Idolize more.....Wow. Of the three extra shadows....definitely Idolize.

One fiber optic should be fine for starting. Just swirl it off on a dry cloth in between colors. Then if you decide you need another you can always get one later. Also, the EM flat top will work. It is similar, but I do prefer the one Karen sells.

I already have the EDM flattop for the foundation. Is that one similar to the SN one?

I didn't like that flattop but that's a personal opinion. I felt that the head was too big and the bristles too splayed/not dense enough. It was very pretty, but i sold mine. I prefer the FF version Karen sells over all the others I have tried (lumiere flat top buffer, EDM long handled flat top, Sheer Cover Natural Hair). If you're happy with the one you have though, there's really no reason to switch.
So I chose basalt, slate and moonstone. But i can choose 2 more eyeshadows with my order! What colours would go with the ones I already have? Not something nessecarily out of the kit, maybe something with more color? I was thinking about Idolize, Beach Plum or Caperberry.

I love(and own) pretty much everything SN. That said, I agree with Jen that that is a lot of dark and a lot of grey. Basalt is dark brown almost black, slate is cool grey, and moonstone is warm grey. My fav. from the SWN collection is quartzite which is a nice pretty tan shimmer that looks good with other colors or as a one color wash lash to brow. Idolize is a crowd favorite and very unique color. Beach Plum and Caperberry are still both very dark- all the colors you've chosen are going to make for a very dramatic eye.
which one do you like more: aria or rhapsody?
Personal preference- i'm not as big on pink as others, i prefer rhapsody. if you like pink, aria is beautiful.
