heavier coverage with the foundation
heavier coverage with the foundation
for people who use the foundation, how do you achieve fairly heavy coverage with this? I am struggling with undereye circles and redness in my face that I like to cover and don't seem to get enough coverage of them. The Unblush and Sleep in a Jar do help some, but not enough. I did discover today that I've maybe been using the wrong base color though. I had been using Warm Gold and today I mixed up some Ebony and I seem to have better coverage with that, so maybe that's been part of the problem. Does anyone have other suggestions? I am awaiting the cream concealers which I think might help too.
Re: heavier coverage with the foundation
Good question, especially if it's undereye circles. I've been using Sarafina's Green Tea Eye Gel and it's helped reduce them some.
I'm not convinced yet that they can be successfully covered by makeup without looking like a panda. But - you can try adding another light layer of foundation, or try applying the foundation wet for heavier coverage. Undereye is so difficult, because it can show fine lines so easily from just about anything.
I think there's a heavier foundation coming out soon. Short of trying to treat the cause, and maybe a double layer or wet application, I don't have a good answer for this one. If the powder concealer works for you then look down when you're putting it on, as that will give you the best idea where the darkest parts really are.

Re: heavier coverage with the foundation
Thanks Rhys. I think I'll try the yellow concealer wet and see if I can get it any heavier that way. I don't think yellow 100% works for me though - based on the color of my undereye I might be better off with a "peach" tone. I am hoping these cream concealers might help also.
I did better with the foundation today too. I was using Warm Gold to white 1:5 and just today I switched to Ebony to white 1:4 - (I am starting to get a little color from being outside). This mix might be a "touch" dark, but my face is darker than my neck by quite a bit anyway and if I try to match my neck exactly I end up looking like "death warmed over" - literally!!! - LOL. This mix seemed to cover better, so some of my problems might be simply with using the wrong base color. I am not really a "cool" at all - but not a "true" warm either. I am a neutral leaning in the warm direction, I think. I would be so happy to get this foundation to work for me though just on the fact that my skin tone will start changing drastically soon due to summer. I remember last summer I kept playing with EM samples I had and trying to keep up with my ever-changing skin tone. Oh, and today I just used plain perfecting powder (the white one) before and after my foundation - I was pretty happy with how that turned out.
OH, and I noticed you got your plum lippie too that you asked for
- did you order it already? I want to order that one that says you have to be a little "brave" to wear it - I have to go look which one it is .............. oh duh, "Fearless!!"

Re: heavier coverage with the foundation
I do hope you can get a foundation match, because the foundation is fantastic. If you're brave, post a pic, and Jen or I can probably give you a hand. I'm mostly cool, with a slight gold undertone (but wihout makeup I am corpse pale). So I warmed up my teaspoon of white to 2 scoops of ebony with a half scoop of warm gold. It isn't an exact match (thankfully!), but it does make me look human and it looks natural. My regular skin, OTOH, looks like a goth in full vampire dress.
Under-eye is such a tricky area, and I do think a cream concealer would be better if you have significant dark circles. It's the place where makeup cakes the easiest. I remember when I was trying to cover dark circles (now I just let a bit of them show through, though the eye gel has helped a lot - they aren't gone, but they're only about half as bad as they were). What were mostly un-noticeable fine lines turned into gouges with concealer, foundation, and FP over them. So do make sure to keep the area Very Well Hydrated, and go sparingly with the yellow concealer. The translucent Perfecting Powder is great under make up, too, and should knock them out some. Spritzing frequently with distilled water or hydrosol throughout the day can help, as well. In the end, I just couldn't trade in the dark circles for what looked like the wrinkles of a 200-year-old.
Yes, I ordered my plum lippie. I was (still sort of am) flat broke this month, but two people asked for readings yesterday and both paid by paypal, so....given that international shipping is going to increase, and given that the new lippies are on sale this week, I ordered four of them - XOXO, Mesmerised, Grace, and Tickled Pink. I want the rest of them, but they'll have to wait, as wil so many things.
I really want to try out the mixing medium/liner sealant, too!

Re: heavier coverage with the foundation
Rhys,
Thanks for the suggestions. I am using a dampened brush for a "wet" layer of foundation followed by a dry layer on trouble spots and that is working well. I am also using perfecting powders liberally before and after foundation. I'd decided I'd buy a f/s of whichever sample I used up first and the original sheer perfecting powder won hands down. Of course this is between the sheer PP, Date Bait, Love Lure - I haven't tried Tempt Tryst yet but will likely get a sample of it in my next order. I am still playing with foundation recipes. Right now I have 1 WG : 5 white and 1 ebony : 4 white which both work fine for me. I tend to use a combo of both of them. My skin tone tends to be fairly forgiving so it's hard to decide what is "best". The positive to this is that it's fairly easy to "make it work" on almost anything (OK - sounding like Tim Gunn now - do you ever watch Project Runway?? - LOL)
I've looked at Sarafina a few times but haven't ordered anything yet. Do you think the Green tea eye gel is better than the Aura Lite eye gel for dark circles? New skin care kind of worries me because my skin likes to be picky and freak out sometimes for no apparent reason. I have some allergy stuff going on right now though and my usually bad dark circles have crossed the line into "horrible" now. I really need to try their toners too - I could use them for spritzing and such.
Have you received your new lippies? How are you liking them? I haven't ordered anything new yet - I have been sick over the last few days with allergies and not feeling well at all. Today I am up and about a bit more - maybe I've finally taken enough meds to catch up - LOL. I really want to get the mixing medium/liner sealant too! Since I tend to like to use e/s as liners I know I'd use it for that, but she really sucked me in when she said you could use it as e/s base too!!
Give me an update on what you ordered when you have time!!

Re: heavier coverage with the foundation
Nothing's arrived yet, post from the States to Canada is *really* slow. But I have six of the new lippies, more blushes, eyeshadow, and liner sealant on the way.
Don't know what to say about the allergies except I know they suck. I like the Green Tea Gel better than the Aura Lite, because it's more hydrating - maybe wait til it's a week when the eye gel is 30% off?
If you live in America, then you can probably get hydrosols cheaper at GoW. Though I like both of them. GoW's got eye creams, too, but those are pricier than Sarafina's, so....
Duh. Bill's got a sampler pack of any five products you want for $4, shipping inclusive, I think. So get samples of the Green Tea and Aura Lite? That oughtn't to break the bank, and if neither suits, then you aren't out much.
