Love for Quiver!!!

Post by robinbird_22 » Sun Sep 06, 2009 2:19 pm

Hi ladies.

I just received my most recent SN order yesterday. I had already done my make-up for the day, so I could only do swatches of Quiver, Fairy Dust, and Ethereal (the GWP surprise shadow). Gorgeous!

So today, I got to play. :D I decided to try out Quiver, and WOW!!! I was worried that it would be a little to sparkly for running to Wal-Mart in my small town, but it wasn't. It is just a really pretty, interesting pink. I even think I could wear it to work (I'm a teacher, so I try and keep my make-up fairly neutral/low-key on weekdays). I'm thrilled that I ordered it, especially since it appears to be gone now (along with Fairy Dust, Jean Queen, etc...)

Tomorrow: Fairy Dust! :D Can't wait! I'm also excited to try Ethereal (a light gold color). I don't really wear gold much, but the swatch looked so pretty. I'm curious to see what it will look like on my eyes.

I really really love Quiver, too! :-) It was an impulse order for me and I wasn't sure I was going to like it because it looks so PINK in the jar. But it's perfect :-)

Could you describe how pink it is? I've been thinking about getting it but it does look very pink on the swatch.
Fairy dust is my favorite eyeshadow and I just love winsome, it is a really pretty purple/brown!

Thanks!

Hmmm...I don't know how well I will do with this...

I would say it is somewhere between a light and a mid-tone pink. It looks sort of like shimmery bubble gum in the jar. That being said, it didn't scream pink to me when I was wearing it yesterday. From a distance it was really subtle; it just seemed to make my eyelids pop a bit. I don't think anyone would have looked at it and thought, "Wow! That's some pink eye shadow!" LOL I think I mentioned in my first post that I would even consider wearing this to work as a teacher, and I try and keep my make-up pretty low-key. (Note: If it makes a difference, I did not foil it. I put it on dry over Mary Kay's eyeshadow primer.)

I would say to give it a try! I was skeptical about whether or not I would actually like it and be able to wear it too.

I am not a fan of pink at all, but I adore Quiver! I wear it foiled over a darker cream base(plum or brown works great), and the gold in it really shows up.
It really does look pretty subtle on for such a bright pink. It looks almost shimmery coral on me, and it's a must for hazel eyes.

laurie, can you give me any hints on how to foil e/s? i'm terrible at it. do you just spritz your brush, or add water to the minerals? do you add enough to make it runny or just to moisten it up? do you let it dry before you blend? do you have to keep your eye closed while it dries? :)
i don't know why i have such a problem with it...i bought the wet/dry brush but it doesn't make a difference. i find it hard to apply the shadows evenly when they are wet; they end up looking kind of uneven, they crease, and make the wrinkles in my lids stand out; they are hard for me to blend together and when i do blend them it kind of rubs away the color so you can't tell they're foiled in the first place. it's a mess :)
thanks for any tips you can share...

Re: foiling -- I'm also all thumbs when it comes to foiling. For me, what works much much better (and faster and less messy) is to use a really creamy base and then tap tap tap the eyeshadows on top. (Blend only very very gently and only at the edges.)

For me, the result is very close to foiling -- you get the iridescence and (almost) all of the color payoff.

The key was to use the right base. Urban Decay Primer Potion and Too Faced Shadow Insurance didn't work well for this purpose because they weren't oily enough. I liked the Clear Liner Sealant that Karen sells, but for me it was a little sticky and didn't always set. The best I've found so far has been MAC shadesticks -- they blend easily and are oily enough to really adhere to the eyeshadows without being too sticky or creasing as the day goes on.

Hi packgal....this is how I foil my eyeshadows:

Like Heathcliff mentioned, a good base of some sort is crucial. I also use MAC shadestick and it works perfctly for me. I use the Lemon Chiffon, which is a really pale yellow-gold.

1. *draw* on the shadestick all over eyelid from lashes to brow. Blend with brush so all you see is a slight shimmer.

2. I use Karen's cream eyeliner samples next. Since the color is already on the q-tippy thing I just lightly *draw* it on; just from lashes to just below crease. Blend with brush so its even and smooth.(I use Mahogony for warm colors and Amythest for cools. I might use Envy or Fort Knox or Peacock, also)

3. Then I use whatever highlight color I want to use----usually Cream or Fire.
To foil it I sprinkle just a few grains in the lid of the jar. Then I run my e/s brush under running water to thoroughly wet it. Then I blot it on a towel so it is damp, not dripping, and just mush the brush down into the e/s lid to mix it with the mineral grains in there. The mixture should NOT be runny...for me it works much better as a paste.(make sure to just start with a TINY amount of minerals; you can always add more if needed. Use the brush to apply the thin paste under my eyebows and in the inner corner of my eyes. Blend. (By the time you are done blending it should be dry, so you don't need to worry about keeping your eyes closed.

4. Using the same technique-starting with just a tiny amount, I mix the shade I want to use in the lid. I apply just a bit to the center of my eyelid, just above my lashes, and blend the sides and to the crease. (my eyes are very deepset, so I only do a 2-color eye).
Doing my eye makeup this way I get no *mineral fallout* on my cheeks, and it stays on usually about 8-10 hours, which is more than enough for me.
Oh-I forgot to mention, I always put on my mascara before any other eye makeup, that way if it smears I can use a q-tip to clean it up.

HTH.Any other questions, feel free to PM me!

Thanks Heathcliff and Laurie, I will take your excellent suggestions into account! I do use several primers and I have a combo that works for me (and I like how my e/s look) but I so want to master that foiling...I don't like to feel like I can't do it :)
