Eye shadows with golden undertones for autumn

Post by kitten1711 » Thu Aug 13, 2009 12:27 pm

Afternoon ladies,

firstly, before anyone mentions that it's still summer, I feel the need to let you know that in England the weather has been rubbish for weeks  and consequently my thoughts are turning to autumn before time :( .

I definitely appreciate all things sparkly/twinkly but realistically I am a neutral eye shadow girl; I love all shades of brown, taupe, purples & berry tones etc as they complement my green eyes & skin (Buttery Gold pigment for me) but would love to combine a golden sheeny undertone (perhaps not as full on as Quiver, Superfly or Shimmy but a more intense version of what's in Tempt Tryst, if you can see what I mean) to create a selection of autumnal shadows which have a bit more about them than a regular matte or pearl product.

I recently tried a couple of shades of blush & eye shadow from Meow Cosmetics' latest Lost Rainforest collection - felt like a complete traitor - and fell in love with a sample of an eyeshadow called Spider Monkey, which is what inspired this request. Spider Monkey is described as "a warm bronzed golden brown with copper and golden iridescent sheen" and it is just lovely.....but limited edition and very expensive for a full size jar (5g sifter jar $8). I have found that the golden underlay makes the shadow super flattering & does wonderful things to bring out the lighter flecks in my eyes, plus the finish doesn't seem to accentuate eye lid crepe-iness which a pearl shadow someties can.

Karen, I know you're just back from holiday (and I need new eye shadows like a fish needs a bicycle  ) but thought I would mention it. And if anyone has any suggestions for SN shadows which I might have overlooked which sound like they might have a similar effect then please let me know :) .

Hi Kitten,
I've been thinking about fall too! It's my favorite time of year. I was also thinking about similar e/s colors. I do like sparkles in my e/s though. I was thinking of a light brown with some cool sparkles. Could you post a swatch of that color? It sounds really nice, and that way Karen could see if it is something she would like to copy.. :D

Thanks! ;)

Hi Kitten, I don't know if Groove is too green or over the top for you, but with my hazel eyes, it's just gorgeous! I like to use a bit of a darker cream liner under my e/s, especially the morphing ones, as the colors tend to show up truer and look a little more sophistacated on my 45+ eyes.
Getaway is also a really nice olive gold, but I tend to gravitate towards those colors.
Gator Gold, and Cougar are nice golden browns, and maybe you could try Luxe with a little Quiver mixed in?
For purples, try Plush with a little Quiver mixed in.

I love bare it’s a very neutral gold I’ve never tried missing it but I think it would give a nice golden tone to lots of shadows.

Kitten,
I was just looking at riddle again. Did you get that one? I think it will be nice in the fall too. It's a really pretty tan/golden sparkly shade. It might be close to what we are looking for. Its really pretty. It has some purple sparkles in the sun. Maybe Karen will make it permanent. There is another thread of people who really like it.

Ladies,

thanks ever so much for the suggestions - although I thought I was a SN afficionado, I have definitely overlooked some lovely looking colours from your recommendations!!!

Plush was the shadow I requested as a freebie with my latest order & Cougar looks like it's right up my street (thanks Laurie for those 2) and Bare is aready a favourite (thanks mgsmrk, it IS gorgeous); Trainer - Riddle sounds about perfect but unfortunately I missed that GWP  .

I hadn't thought about mixing one of the newer morphing shadows with existing shades but that's something I'll have a bash with. A smidge of Quiver would probably work really well mixed with ANY purpl-y shade, and the same goes for Groove or perhaps even Shimmy with browns (I'm not a big fan of green toned shades on my eyes but you'd only need a speck to impart the golden finish to other e/s I reckon). Thanks for that - was looking for a way to justify buying a couple of these and now I have it :D
