Some love for the Zinc Finishing Powder!

Hiya, on my last little mini-haul, I ordered all the gumballs, and really haven't tried them yet, since that is a whole other thread(not sure what I really NEED to use)
But---since the Ultra Sheer Zinc Finishing Powder is pretty dang self-explanetory I jumped right in on that one!
I actually use it on a nice clean face in the morning. I use a little baby 'buki to buff it all over my face, and boy, I just LOVE the way it feels! really soft and smooth and creamy! My foundation goes on like buttah afterwards, then my mix of PP and Blur finishing powder completes it. So far, this has been the nicest *finish* I have found with all my SN products. And for some reason, I feel like my mid-day T-Zone oilies are a little more controlled; my face feels soft, not greasy. I don't use a SPF product on my face(I know I should, but they are just so yucky), but I figure between this, and my foundation I am getting at least a little protection

I freckle, but at least I don't burn!
Karen, are you planning to release this? If so, I'll buy jars and jars and jars!

Hmmm, I gotta try that! I used that zinc stuff as finishing powder instead of PP the other day, but forgot to look at myself during the day, so can't tell the difference. It felt nice. I'm gonna try again Laurie's way and my way (blur on bottom and zinc on top of foundation), see how it works out.

Thank you for starting this thread! I started to write one the other day, but then I was distracted by some shiny bauble (or, more likely, work).
I absolutely refuse to use drugstore daily facial sunscreen on my face.
I know it's a bad thing to do. Shame, shame, tsk, tsk and all that, but I hate how it feels, I hate all the chemicals, and I hate applying it and how hard it is to put make up on on top of it-not to mention that it's impossible to re-apply without removing all of one's make-up, applying then re-applying all of one's makeup. So, as concerned as I am with preventing skin aging, I just rely on the fact that I wear mineral make-up, I'm not outside very often and when I am outside I always wear ginormous sunglasses.
Please, please, please, please add this to the permanent line. I know it isn't "officially" rated, but frankly, I don't care. The SPF ratings on name-brand sunscreens seem more like marketing gimmicks than useful knowledge about the product's performance since there are so many other factors to take into consideration (the UVA/UVB thing, that chemical that morphs into a free-radical, some studies have shown that over SPF 30 that there is really no additional protection, etc, etc, etc.)

I know how you feel, Freesilk! I've been using sunscreen as far as I can remember, and kept going higher and higher in SPF (last summer I was up to 55-70), until I read an article about the chemical sunscreens. I was mortified. They can actually cause more damage if not re-applied than not applied at all. I leave it to everyone else to make their own informed decisions, but that was the last time I touched any chemical stuff. I tried to find physical ones, but they either don't apply well, or they make my face a grease pot. I've been even considering making my own based on things I learned on forums, but Karen's stuff just makes it so much more convenient. I did actually try the stuff that she recommended from Sephora, but I wasn't impressed.
If I don't wear makeup and I know I'm going to be exposed (beach, hikes and walks), I don't mind the oily feel, but if I'm to wear makeup and just barely get sun, I'd rather have this zinc powder. Some of Karen's serums are antioxidants, and that makes a whole lot of difference when it comes to long-term sun protection, way more so than the yucky chemicals.

Yah, I can't use drugstore sunscreen either. It clogs my pores. I like the zinc powder so far. I would buy a full size.
Oh, but I will say that Aubrey's makes a good natural sunscreen. If anybody wants to go that route or needs sunscreen for your body. Their face products have been the least problematic for me of anything I've tried. They are made with PABA-O so I don't know anything about that scientifically but apparently it's some kind of B vitamin ester??....

Hey, here's another thing I thought of. Apparently some kinds of carotenes reduce the risk of sunburn. I learned that when I was working at a nutrition store.

Thank you so much for the tip Zeebs- that's amazingly helpful, and the tidbit about the green tea makes me feel a bit better. I already take green tea, and I put it in pretty much most of the potions I make- it does seem to help. It's kind of like Vitamin C- a multi-purpose, good for everything, no side effects ingredients. My favorite extract makes creams brown- but I'm going with it for at least one moisturizer. I know some will get turned-off by it, but personally I don't care what a cream looks like- I care what I look like. Raspberry oil is supposed to have a broad spectrum SPF of 28-50, and it's a gorgeous oil- that's part of the reason I use it in the OC serum.
I can't handle them anymore either. For years and years I used Neutrogena Dry Touch, Bullfrog SPF 60 gel, or Oil of Olay- and still had freckles- lots of freckles- and I'm a solarphobe- I really don't go out in the sun. But now I have to get a mole removed from the sole of my foot- check your feet for moles...the soles of your feet shouldn't be pigmented at all. A massage therapist caught it- thank goodness. I had so many sunburns as a kid- but never ever on the bottoms of my feet. A few years ago I bought the raw chemical blocks thinking that I could make something better, but they're really pretty yucky feeling no matter what I tried. I thought it was a formulation issue, but it's an ingredients issue. I could get nicer feeling cream using 10W30.
I have plenty more of the zinc- you're more than welcome to keep ordering the gumballs until I get the full size up.

Late jumping on the bandwagon but I really like this too and am SO glad to hear it's being added in full size! As a melanoma survivor I get excited when I find extra sun protection that doesn't irritate my extremely sensitive skin. I was really bummed when I discovered my face hated red raspberry oil.
Karen, more importantly...

I am so glad you caught this. Hopefully it will turn out to be nothing, but what an important reminder to everyone to know your body and regularly look for changes.

Oh no! I just just just finished a moisturizer with raspberry oil in it! I still feel guilty that I haven't gotten to do the silk-less foundation for you. If you want PM me with a list of your triggers, and if you're looking for some skin goodies I'll try to work around them.
