Eyeshadow color suggestions?

Post by toogerbug » Fri Apr 10, 2009 11:50 pm

Hi,

I'm new to Silk Naturals. About me...I'm 33, I have super pale skin (think Nicole Kidman pale), dark brown eyes (nearly black), very dark neutral brown hair (dyed, I'm naturally a medium red/blonde, but it makes my skin look too pink, so I went about 4-5 shades darker and without the red & yellow, which on me wasn't blonde but just a wierd yellow/green), my brows are very dark brown (naturally).

I don't wear yellow, green or blue eyeshadow. I'm uncomfortable in those colors because I don't think they look good on me.
I like neutral looks (think Bobbi Brown looks) and smokey eyes (sometimes together, sometimes, just natural).

Here's what I have from Silk Naturals:

Brimstone (MAC Slate clone) (Love it!)
Lurid (MAC Moth Brown clone) (Love it!)
Mink (MAC Satin Taupe clone) (Love it!)
Tweed (Stila Heather Clone) (Love it!)
Buff (BB Nude Mist Clone) (Really great neutral, a color I've been looking for forever, not too warm or cold!)

Didn't Work:
Terra (too orange)
Mocha (too orange)
Spice (too orange)
Au Natural (too orange)

What colors should I avoid if I found the above colors too orange?

What colors should I try if I loved the first list of colors?

I'm thinking Nudge Nudge & Idolize?

What about Wisdom & Heart Throb? (Heart Throb might be too similar to Idolize, correct?)

Any other color suggestions for eyeshadows?

Thanks!

Yes yes yes on Idolize- you'll love it! Wink Wink and Nudge Nudge are great. Wisdom, and Heart Throb (more silvery than Idolize) are great too. I'm pink and pale too- but I can wear some golds and coppers. These are the ones that I tend to avoid:
Bargain Pink, Disco, Luxe, Honey, Teakie- I have to be in the mood to wear High Beam and Cabana- also avoid anything with the word "warm" in the title.

Personally I can't live without some sort of highlight color- Bone for matte, Vanilla for subtle shimmer, or Cream when I want something almost pearl.

You're in good company with pale girls- they'll probably have a few more suggestions!

In browns, I don't think you'll like luxe, azctec, sierra, or sunlit bark

since you seem to like things on the greyer side: slick, moonstone, taupetastic

I can wear Honey - it's one of my fave highlighters. LOVE Idolize (you need this one), and am lemming Heartthrob at the moment.

I CAN'T wear Nekkid - that one goes too orangey on me for some reason, though it seems to be neutral on most folks. Also can't wear most of the ones Karen named, or have to be in the mood for eye shadow sinning. Coppers do tend to look good on me, though.

Redhead here, too, and also uber-pale, very cool-toned skin but with a wicked gold undertone, weird eyes that can't decide if they're green/blue/grey.

How about Vinyard, Velvet, and Cream? Purple range, those work WELL. And I bet with brown eyes you'd rock them - they aren't like glaring purple or anything, just very nice.

Really like Wildcat and Cougar, and if you can wear brown-olivey then Dolce would probably be good, too - it's another fave colour when I'm being neutral - which doesn't happen too often, I grant, but...

Wildcat is one of my fave liner colours, as are Mink, Bittersweet, and - Taupetastic. Bare and Boom might also be nice highlighters for you.
