Mineral makeup contains SPF?

Post by NSmith » Tue Jul 17, 2018 5:25 pm

I’m wondering if the mineral foundations (specifically the powders) can be considered to have any SPF on their own because of their ingredients? I have been looking online but can’t seem to find any definitive answer to my question. Thank you!

All we can really say is there may be some. Generally, assume it is very low to none.

We can't legally claim there is an spf, or give a ballpark number. It changes the way the product has to be classified. SPF has to be tested in a lab, and the product is considered a drug. And that leads to all kinds of testing and regulations (not that those things are a bad thing). However, it would change the way the company would have to do business.

My advice is: Do Not count on mineral makeup as a source of SPF. It might help, but other tested products are your best bet.
