Silk Naturals

I've started pressing some of my eyeshadows, and some turned out great! But some, after pressing/air drying, seem to have turned back into a loose powder. I assume I needed to use more pressing medium. If I want to go back and try to re-press these, how do I go about it? More medium? Add rubbing alcohol?

And if anyone else has pressing Q's/problems, feel free to tack them onto this post!

If they are still too loose then you need more pressing medium. That's a good problem to have though, cauz you can just add more, rather than if they were too hard since you can't take pressing medium back out of it.

How much powder fits in the pan from the round kit pans when pressed with the SN pressing medium?

IIRC, it's between half and a whole jar for a quarter sized pan. Use a couple drops of medium til it's kind of like damp sand.

Thanks, I tried pressing some and for the colours I tried it seems like an entire shadow (what I got in a standard container from Silk Naturals) will fit in the ~25mm (I think that is the size that was in the kit) size pan with room to spare. I also pressed some Alima shadows and used the Silk Naturals container to approximately measure the quantity by dumping some from the packaging into the SN container. With the Silk Naturals container not entirely full to the top without the sifter, I would get a full pan.

I used 5/6 drops with a full container of Bone plus a bit of leftover from a second container (<1/4 tsp extra). It gave a loose messy sandy texture (with some more powdery bits) when mixed and when pressed worked well. Brandy and Stag also worked with that quantity but Colt is a bit softer and a bit more messy in the pan. Cream fell completely apart after drying, so I guess I'll need to add more if I repress based on a comment here. The more matte or close to matte Alimas also worked with only 6 drops (even though I used more powder than comes in the standard Silk Naturals container) but the shimmer/pearluster ones didn't work out and fell apart after drying.

? Do I now start from scratch and add drops as if I was starting with new dry powder or does what is already in there have some wetting effect? Six drops didn't work, so do I now add 9 or something less? How can I tell that I have enough liquid in a more shimmery shadow?

I usually choose somewhat shimmery shadows but I do recall someone (maybe oxana) mentioning that shimmery shadows press well with extra medium while matte shadows can end up drying way too hard. If it's still crumbly just add another drop or two. Some people press with just rubbing alcohol, some people press with fractionated coconut oil. they all press a little differently so just wing it.
