I noticed a couple SN wishies on MMM looking for liptint (liquid or gel stain). I'd like to the third the suggestion over here (as if there aren't already enough kinds of lippies- lol- you know me, never enough lippies. hehehe!)

LOVE that idea, Samantha! You know I'm a little ol' lady, ROFL, & a stain would be wonderful. One of the many side effects of getting older is that pigment in lips lessens a LOT, so a "color" base is a good thing. I have tried some (Urban Decay INKs) & they're horrendous-tasting, let alone whatever chemicals I was ingesting  ~ they *did* give a decent base color, though, after they muted-down. They applied SO dark that I applied them *before* showering ~ & then they'd fade enough before I got out, LOL!

I love lip tints and stains so a SN one would be great. But i thought that there were a lot of nasty chemicals in them that made them stay on so long so that was why mineral make-up companies didn't make them?
Anyway i... Fifth (?) the suggestion.

They're theoretically pretty easy...a little bit of dye, water, thickener- and a preservative. That's the kicker for me personally as a formulator. The only FDA "lip safe" broad spectrum preservatives that *I* know of are parabens, but I'll look into some things. I really can't promise much on this one at the moment, but I do love the idea.

I just remembered terrafirma makes a natural lipstain. I'm sure if you make one, it'll obviously be your own formula but these are the ingredients from their site for research purposes:

Certified Organic Aloe Vera Gel, Purified Water, Carbomer, Pullulan, Natural Essential Oil Flavor, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Mica, Mineral Oxides, NaPCA, May contain (Beet Juice, Red Wine Powder, Cranberry Juice Powder, Titanium Dioxide, Tin Dioxide, Hibiscus Flower Powder).

I forgot about phenoxyethanol- that's the preservative in that one...the only trouble is that I'm freakishly allergic to it (to the point where my skin blisters- which is why we don't have a skincare line). I'm still looking into some things.

i forgot you were allergic to a bunch of skincare things which is why you make your own! I know nothing about preservatives. i use germall-plus in my conditioner but i don't think that's lip safe...
