The EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database?

Post by BeaT » Fri Sep 12, 2008 11:59 pm

I've wanted to mention this for ages -- has SN signed up with the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics yet? Because that's what it takes to have SN products extensively reviewed in the EWG Skin Deep Cosmetics Database.

I find this important because people who check out the database are mostly likely the kind of people who'd find SN a compelling buy -- or at least I'm anyway. I'm certain SN can get very good score and a 0 (very low hazard) rating across the board based on my experience shopping according the guide. I have hyper sensitive skin that can only be washed with pure H2O -- the kind of pure water chemical labs use. I get terrible breakouts within a couple hours at most if any irritant stays on my skin.

Illuminare (rated 2, low hazard) gives me breakout all over within half an hour, and Jane Iredale Liquid Mineral (also rated 2) renders my skin condition highly unstable. Larinem powder foundation used to have a 0 rating, yet it overdried my skin and gave me major zits; its score has since been lowered to 3 (moderate hazard) though I don't know if the formulation has changed.

The point is, SN products are the only ones that always work for me safely and also beautifully in all weather conditions. If I can wear it worry-free, at least 99.9999% of the human population can too.

The Skin Deep database has added SN to the list of brands but no product review is available.

I can't find my product or brand. Can it be added to Skin Deep?

If you would like a product or company to be added into our live database, please encourage that company to join the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a partnership with companies organized by a coalition of public health and environmental organizations. The Compact requires that the company list their products in Skin Deep.

According to this http://www.safecosmetics.org/faqs/index ... ign_funded ,
it's free to sign the campaign, but I can't find any information on whether it's also free to have your products tested at all or tested ASAP.

And on the subject of advertising... has SN bought the Google AdWords service yet? I'm asking because whenever ads for mineral makeup appear in my Gmail, SN is never among them, but I do see ads for brands I don't like as much or brands that don't seem as competitive as SN.

AdWords is the most (and perhaps the only) effective online advertising in my case. I habitually ignore all ads online and often see them as nuisances that waste my time and impede whatever I'm doing, yet I always scan the Google text ads that appear in my Gmail inbox for things that might prove useful. Whenever I have the time, I click on every one whose product/service proposition I find interesting, and these ads also leave a deeper impression because I actively pay attention to them instead of passively having them overwhelm my attention.

And I don't know what it takes to be a candidate for the Natural Solutions magazine's Beauty with a Conscience Awards, but I think it's worth looking into as well.

Just a few thoughts. : )
