AHA or BHA?

hi! 
I'm 20 years old, and I got a sample of the AHA and so far it seems to work quit well on my skin, but before buying the full size I was wondering which one is better for my age; is the AHA too intense or is it too soon to use that often? should I go with the BHA?
btw - I am basically looking for something to make my skin more even-toned and smoother.
