EyeWands

Post by Xarata » Wed Nov 30, 2011 10:32 pm

I've been reaching for the eyewands lately for 2 reasons:

-I love Angelic and Devilish together color-wise, they're very much a traditional go-to color combo for me
-The FCO in them makes them go on bright and stick without a primer (which is great when i'm in a hurry)

So I thought I'd share my initial opinion of them.

What I like:
-I like the FCO in them for the above reasons, they're smooth, bright, and they stick without primer.
-Because they're in a tube, I don't have to worry about all the product ending up on the wrong side of the sifter.
-The color combos are convenient. I will totally be happy to rubber band a few (or even just 2) of these together and throw them into a bag for vacation. My magnetized jars do travel in pairs (magneted together), but i think the tubes will be easier to find in my bag. Better yet, now that everything is similar packaging, I can bundle an ENTIRE look (cream concealer, cream blush, lippie(s), shadows, and mascara-AND they're all happily color coded) with a rubber band and pull it out together. I'm all for things that save me time.

What I don't like:
-Naturally, being in a tube instead of a jar messes with my storage system. (I'm just keeping them with the lippies for now)
-I have not mastered the art of blending with a doefoot, so i still pull out a brush to blend it all together which I feel kind of defeats the convenience of an applicator. I don't REALLY mind, but I couldn't help but noticing.
-I usually pick my colors by sight- i have all the jars bottom/color side out. With these tubes, I have to look for the ends. If there end up being a lot of them, I'll probably end up storing them upside down (bottoms/colors up), but it's a pretty tiny window. I also foresee knowing how much product is left in the tube (and getting all of the product out) being difficult.

Overall, I like them, but I don't know if I'm a convert just yet.

Great review Xarata.

I've been going back and forth about getting the eye wands.

I also would've like to have the labels not cover the whole entire tube. Maybe have a clear label like I see other indie companies use so that the pretty colors shows through?

I will probably end up getting one just to try it out. I am interested in how adding the FCO works for me.

Thanks for the review, Sam. Do you have any problems with fallout or the product goobering everywhere?

The first couple of times i opened them (especially the very first time) there was a bit of a color explosion, but after a couple of uses it stops flying.

I must admit that, though I like the concept of the EW, in reality they do not work for me.
The fallout is wasteful; it messes my sink, and even my clothing and cheeks if am not ultra careful.
I prefer the control that comes with working with pure powder from a jar. I can control the way the color looks--the depth, the intensity, the iridescence, the smokiness--by choosing the correct brush and primer or mixing medium.
I am in my mid-forties, and my upper eyelids have a little "crepiness" to them. I need to use a high-quality brush or I will not achieve a smooth, subtle result. The doe-foot does not offer that kind of precision.
I love the new colors though!

I do think that after opening an closing it several times, the little plastic piece that brushes the product off the wand gets looser and the wand starts to slide out of there easier so you do not get as much of the powder flying everwhere.
I also agree with the FCO adding to the smoothness and intensity of color, that's why I press all my shadows with FCO. So I don't really need eye wands because of my shadows being pressed, but I did get one to try because I think it is a neat concept. And I really love the color, the one I got is Angelic.

Oh, and you mentioned not being able to blend properly with the wand, try just blending with your finger after you apply it. I know it is a sort of archaic method, but it works well, I have probably 20+ eye shadow brushes, and find myself using my fingers half the time.

Andrea sent me a decanted sample of Sinner and I love it. Are we allowed to pick eye wands as our free eyeshadow?

I did angelic as my freebie when they came out, so I want to say yes...

Ah, good to know, and glad you like it! BTW, Sinner is not a wand, it comes in the regular container.

Don't like the wand, but I like the formula.
Could there be a compromise somehow?
Current SN foundation mix: 4 Buttery Gold: 2 Yellow Boosters: 21 Medium Ivory: 8 Original Ivory: 3 Glow
