Controlling oily skin with minerals

Post by cosmeticcosmos » Tue Jan 18, 2011 3:24 pm

What would be the best route to control my oily skin? After 1 hour of applying mineral makeup it gets oily and feels uncomfortable. Should I try a perfecting powder, a blur, or zinc powder? Also, would it be more beneficial to apply any of these before or after mineral foundation, or mixed in it?

Thank you everyone :)

For Oily, I usually recommend Oil Control Blur before foundation. Hopefully, we will hear from some of the gals who hae the sam challenge as you. I am usually dry, so my opinion is not from experience, which are the best ones!

Others may have different preferred application, but this is what I do to minimize shine:

Layer ultimate luxury treatment powder (others prefer the zinc powder) under foundation
layer foundation (I use the all purpose right now, but the original blurs pores a bit better)
layer self tinted (mixed with Tempt Tryst to match my coloring) oil control blur on T zone

Also, having nicely hydrated skin is a must, or all the above won't really work. Drink plenty of water,
use non-stripping cleanser like KISS from SN (some ladies recommend to use the apricot oil cleanser to stabilize normal facial oil production),
tone and hydrate before using a light-weight moisturizer. Masking and periodical light exfoliation helps too to bring back the balance.

The Skin Care part of this forum may have better or more detailed advice too.

My skin used to be oily before I started using sn skin care. I don't have oily skin anymore it is I guess normal although what is normal really. Here is what I do.

Morning
kiss cleanser
face lift serum or vitamin c peptide serum
lubriderm w/spf

Night
apricot cleansing oil
intensive moisturizer or the new argan moisturizer

I used to have to touch up 2 or 3 times a day with a finishing powder. Now I only touch up once right before dh comes home. That would be about 12 hours after I put my makeup on. I love sn skin care.

OK, mid-30s, very oily here.

I start off by mixing my serums and letting them dry.

I use Super Serum and Oil Control Serum. Sometimes I mix a drop or two of argan oil with this on drier, colder days. Using oils on your face will not make you oilier, not really. You might like the Green Tea and Aloe if you don't want actives and that is great for oily, acne-prone skin.

Then I use my moisturizer- my favorite one is the Firming one. Of course, you can use the Jojoba, Raspberry, or Hemp one. The secret to Karen's moisturizers is that they do not have heavy emulsifying waxes, and that's what always made me feel oily and made me break out.

I then use a combination of Ultimate Luxury Powder and Ultra Sheer Zinc Powder. (I have tinted this faintly lemon-lime to help mask rosacea.)

I have used every formulation, but I'm loving the All Purpose right now. But I have used Original for years and love it, too.

Then I use a combination of Tempt Tryst and Untinted Oil Control Blur. I usually bump it up with a little Buttery Gold and Yellow Corrector. I'm VERY yellow-toned.

I keep Clean & Clear oil blotters in my purse at all times. They work far better than the paper- because it's a film. I don't have to reapply powders, it all stays in place.
