For the past 3 years I have been wearing a foundation a few shades lighter than my skin tone. Even though I know this is not my color I have been hesitant to change because of my skin. Unfortunately, I have extremely oily skin, which of course is a complete pain in the neck. Whenever I try a foundation that I is my skin color (for example, today I wore some buttered gold from my samples that just came!) it always ends up looking too dark around the areas that get very oily. While the color goes on looking great, and stays that way for about an hour or so, within a few hours my nose and chin start to look too dark. With the lighter shade, I never had this problem because even though the make-up wasn't my skin tone, once my face got oily the makeup got soaked up and my natural color came through.
I really LOVED the buttered gold. I was sure it would be a great color on me and it was, even in the sunlight! But by the end of the day certain areas look too dark.
Should I lighten my foundation color so that I won't have this problem?

I think they recommend that you mix up the foundation a bit lighter as it will darken as it melds on to your skin. I know mine looks a bit pale when it is first applied, but within a certain amount of time it matches up perfectly. (I also have very oily skin.)

I'd try lightening it just a little bit at a time... Also, make sure your skin is hydrated. I have rather oily skin too, but it gets dehydrated and that increases the oiliness. You could try using some of the oil control primer underneath your foundation after you hydrate (with a serum or light moisturizer), it's pretty effective for some!

Maybe lighten it by half a scoop?x22stepx wrote:For the past 3 years I have been wearing a foundation a few shades lighter than my skin tone. I would work on hydrating your skin, so it doesn't need to produce so much oil. When my skin was oily I tried not using moisturiser, and using products to dry up the oil, but that just made it worse as my skin became dehydrated and overproduced sebum to compensate. Maybe try spritzing your face with something like the strawberry spritzer after applying your makeup to hydrate your face and get rid of the initial pale look?
