How do you shop on the site??

It's sort of a weird question, but my Winter project is oomphing up the site to make it more shopping friendly. I also got a new camera lens, so I've been reshooting a lot of the product pictures.

Right now I'm immersed in eye shadows and I'm rather at a loss as to how to organize them, and make it so the sheer volume of them doesn't make you crazy. Any ideas??? Any thoughts???

As someone who's purchased A LOT of your shadows :D , I do tend to shop by color and texture....I tend to know I want to look for, say, for instance, a matte purple-y pink one (and I found a great one in Thistle btw). The volume can be intimidating if you pan it out to all the colors available. There's another company I frequent for shadows that lists things almost by categories like matte, satin, semi-shimmer, shimmer, pearl, metallic, etc. I like that a lot, personally. Color is important too.

I can remember whether I've said this before but I'd looove a random shadow generator! Just for when you want to try something a little different that you wouldn't usually go for? The way I pick my shadows is either suggestions on here or if I see a look I like I'll have a look for the colours.

I look a few different ways. Based on texture, I've specifically looked for matte. Then looked by color, for example neutrals. One other thing I've used is your swatches of collections or groups of colors. I like seeing the colors near others or as a "look". Sometimes I don't want to think and just want the experts to tell me what looks good together. I'm a lot more likely to buy like 3 shadows that you say look like together than a single just hanging out there.

I shop from Jen's swatches. Clear, colour-true, well-lit swatches are the strongest factor, for me, in deciding what to buy. Minerals are so multi-dimensional that they can look vastly different in the jar / loose powder shot versus a photo of an applied swatch.

Otherwise, I second what Cait said. Knowing the texture finish is particularly helpful. I turn 36 tomorrow and on a crinkly skin day, satin and subtle pearls are more flattering than shimmer. Differentiating the finished appearance is important for days when makeup is restorative as well as decorative! ;)

I shop either by texture (like Cait said) or by color. I love swatch pics of nearby shades, the older swatches that Jen did that have been there a while are invaluable...even though sometimes they make me a bit depressed about colors I can't have...like Lichen or Creamsicle!

Your descriptions help a lot too, sometimes you note things that don't show in the swatches (like the color of shimmer, or that it looks good on warm toned skin)...and I rely heavily on reviews and this forum! :D

I shop by finish and color, so for example, pearly purples is what I have been gravitating towards lately. I also always check out the swathes since I feel like I get a better idea of the color that way as well as being able to compare it to other colors in the swatch.

Well, I pretty much just use the new products button anymore or if i'm looking for a specific color (from viewing someone's swatch or for a refill) i use the search bar, BUT when i first started shopping, i searched by color (i love me some browns and greens) and also the one color washes, and then when i felt comfortable enough to leave my "safe" bubble i would just go one page at a time for colors that really popped out at me(like plush, poly, and bewitched- i just HAD to have them.), then when my collection started getting quite large i would go through all of the colors in search of what i didn't have.

eta:
there is a store i used to buy from(TMM) that organized by color and when you opened the page for the color category, the main swatch comparison for that color group was at the top of the page, which i loved. They have since revamped their site so you can click for either color or finish, but did away with that one big swatch (which i was so fond of) as well as the eye-look pictures that used to be on each individual color's page (they had EOTD photos on each page showing you a look using the color which of course always interested me in the other colors they used in the photo- which were listed).

Their site revamp now features a thumbnail (the circle of the photographed powder) and a dry swatch and a wet swatch. While their site is a lot cleaner and i know the product is still wonderful, i really miss the swatch comparisons and EOTDs. It was one of the things that drew me to them in first place.

The product that I buy the most from at Silk Naturals are the lippies.

I go by the swatches that people have offered on the forum or other forums/blogs. I also go straight to the "New Products" page.

I love that you have the different categories for the lip glosses. I tend to shop for sheers so it helps that you have a category for sheer lip glosses. I also like Jen's swatches. They are so clear and I like that she swatches them next to other colors for comparison.

One thing I do want to suggest, though, is if it's possible to photograph the lip glosses in the tube as well as swatches on the skin?
