Silk Naturals

Hello there,
I know that I have read on here somewhere about people using the silk minerals for face painting and was curious about trying it this fall.... I want to create a futuristic look such as this linkhttp://pumpkincat210.wordpress.com/2010 ... p-trend-2/... was wondering how to keep the makeup from melting as well as color suggestions or other futuristic looks! I am extremely excited to try this and hope that others will find this useful come Halloween!

Very cool look, I can see why you want to do something similar for Halloween!! And mineral makeup would be a bit nicer on the skin than stage makeup! Getting the colors to stay on and stay true would be the challenge though... Is it cold where you live by the time Oct. 31 rolls around? If so, that might work in your favor!

I think you'll have to use a primer, especially around the eyes and such to give you a clean, blank base to build on....as well as some sort of fixative to keep the powders on and prevent them from budging as the night wears on. I haven't used anything like that myself before, but I'm sure someone around here has and will be able to give you some suggestions. Good luck, and please post a pic when you try it!!

You can make a sort of lipstick consistency makeup out of castor oil or liquid vitamin e (both have a thick kind of syrupy consistency) and just add powders to it. For more opaque colors, i'd add some white foundation base. Otherwise, the really pigmented/matte colors work best for liquid makeup: http://host.silknaturals.com/creb/advan ... i8a6lojh42 Heavy foundation base makes a great white, coal eyeshadow base makes a great black, etc. Most of the powdered reds aren't true reds when mixed, but for a red or a pink, you might as well pull from your lippies and set with powder. Bombshell is a great red. In general, something like castor oil will air out to a powder finish, but you can also set it with powder to speed the process along.

Getting powders wet (with a hydrosol or water) will help them stick, and topping them with loose powders will up the coverage, but won't necessarily give the coverage you want for halloween makeup. For something like a whole white or green face(green color corrector), i would probably use this method just because of the amount of powder you could end up needing for halloween grade coverage.

I do know of a MMU company that does a small line of more heavily pigmented, opaque shades just for Halloween for this purpose. I know it might be a lot of work, but it'd be something for Karen to think about if at all possible, I know it was something people always asked for at the EDM forum but it was never even acknowledged.

I paint my kids faces with mineral makeup. I use my brightest and most opaque colours, and then I mix them with either aloe vera gel or the SN mixing medium. I don't use a primer underneath, but then it is just for my kids so it doesn't really matter if it comes off.

Oooh that's a fun look! I'd say put a little something sticky down as a base- primer, a heavier lotion, aloe gel, even lip balm would work in a pinch. After that you should be able to put it on and blend it out beautifully.

Yes, we're planning some "get the look" sort of Halloween inspired things because you can actually blend out a lot of our existing colors to create different characters. We've done the Joker, Frankenstein, Dracula, tons of zombies (Ithaca has a zombie prom every year...), construction workers. Most of the kids that I know are boys- so we've made a lot of little boys into assorted goblins and ghouls. I believe you can also do most of the Rocky Horror Picture Show cast member looks too (Columbia's lippie in the Time Warp scene is the one I'm having trouble placing...but I think we must have something on the shelf already).
