This is the dress I'm wearing to the grad ball on Saturday, but I don't know what to do about makeup!

As a rule I don't match my eyeshadow with my clothes but I've never really though of lips. I'll be doing a browny/neutral but black lined semi-smokey eye I think, but to Crimson or not to Crimson. That is the question!!!

No, although it's *always* down to personal style choice, I've often heard that makeup artists regard it as a golden rule to wear the makeup that best suits your face and colouring and not to match the colour scheme to your clothing. If red lips suit you (and I imagine they would, I'm pretty sure I remember you looking devastatingly beautiful sporting Sultry or Raisin, so similar) then yeah, it'd work. However, on other occasions, like blue eyeshadow matching a blue sweater, no, that's a bad co-ordination idea in principle. Red lips are that uniquely special look though, they wear themselves.

The only caveat with a red lip is that it's high maintenance. Do you want that extra worry? Maybe wear the red lips for arrivals, make an impact, get photos taken, then as the evening wears on and the drinks flow, switch to a softer red like Bitten which is easier to wear.

Whatever you choose, have a sensational time and make very happy memories.

Yeah I was thinking for crimson and my lipecote for after the meal. It's a toughie!!! I don't have bitten I wear red lips with black usually, I'm worried I'll look too 'matched'.

I have Sultry but I think that may be a little too heavy with a floaty dress? We shall see. My makeup decisions are always way more complicated than my outfit types! Damn SN and its aceness! A couple of years ago I didn't have to make these choices I could just make the choice between my three eyeshadows and there was just the one lip and cheek tint.......

Do you normally wear red lips? If so, then not wearing one would seem out of place and you may hate the pics because you don't look "you". But, if its not your preferred lip color, then I think a more sheer color will work fine. Have you tried the dress on with the lip color in question? Its hard because the dress has an almost summery feel...but you're going to a more formal dinner, so your make up could go either way.

With a smoky eye I usually go with a neutral lip. Then again, I prefer my eyes to be the main focus of my face usually! I say try both the red and a more neutral color tomorrow with the dress on. If it looks too matchy or overpowers the dress, you'll know ahead of time and can pick a more suitable color!

My first thought when I saw that dress even without reading your question: Crimson! But what Cupcake said, you gotta consider the high maintenance factor. I second the 'try it and see how it looks'. Before a big event, I usually practice to get the look right, otherwise I may end up redoing my makeup the night of, twice. Happened before :/

I do match my teal sweater to teal eye shadow :p I like to somewhat match, but I stick with colors that look good on me.

Oh wow what a cute dress! I would go for a darker red, like Hot Blooded (I'm sure there are others too, but that's the only red I have from SN ), but then again I don't feel comfortable in bright lip colors. If you do, go for it - stars do it all the time!

Ooo I wish I had a dress like those!!! Gonna start getting ready now (sat here in a aspirin and honey mask praying my threaded eyebrow redness is gone by the tiume i take it off!), shall have a play and let you know what I come up with! Thank you all for your input. I just needed to check it wasn't some big no no or must do. There'll be lots of cameras around tonight so I'm sure I'll have some picture or other to pop up

Yep, pics or it didn't happen! And I never get a night out either (which is why I always wear full on eyeshadow for day, lol, otherwise I would never get the chance!)
