Eye Shadow Combos

Hi,

I need help in choosing fun combos for eye shadow. I normally lean more toward nuetral colors; however, I am not opposed to something that's a little brighter and bolder, but not too bold. I am also looking for at least one make-up look that is fun and fresh for Spring.

I have been confused for a long time about whether I am a warm or a cool. My hairdresser, and a make-up artist at Ulta, told me that I have characteristics of both warm and cool. My skin tone is fair to medium, I have dk brown hair, and med brown eyes. My boyfriend says that my skin tone is "peachy."

It's really only been the past couple of years that I've started wearing make-up. I find it difficult to mix and match eyeshadows. I find single colors that I love, but I have hard time pairing them. :o My only successful match is Slate and Moonstone.

I'd really appreciate it if you could give me some new suggestions to spice up my collection. I am going to list the eye shadows that in have in the hopes that I can incorporate them with your suggestions.

Thank you in advance, I appreciate any help you can lend :D If you have lipsticks recommendations, I welcome those too, any advice is welcome.

Eye shadows that I own: Bone, Sierra, Cabana, Tailfeather, Nekkid, Slate, Eu-taupe-ia, Moonstone, and two GWP's: IDK and Nova.

welcome to Silk Naturals!

so down to business!
do you like these e/s for your or are there ones that might not look quite right with your skin?
ok...hehe. sorry that's all the business I can help with. ;)
you might consider posting a photo of yourself (in natural light if possible, and no funny lens colours), of if you are not comfortable doing that, you can PM a picture to JenW (the mod here), and she will be able to help you with more colours.

These are some colours I would suggest:
Earth - georgous cool brown with sligh shimmer, very understated in a great way, depending on your tone, can be a wash or crease colour.
Brown Sugar - a bright dark chocolate brown colour with shimmer, very nice as a liner, wash (for drama) and in the crease.
Plush - a move towards colour!! purple with copper shimmer, really pretty in the outside V area, and for lining,
Taffeta - a satiny/shimmery plum purple with a grey/blue tone to it.
Vineyard - another way to get into some more colours, this is an amazing multi-faceted colour with layers of colour
Idolize - everyone will recommend this to you. It is a beautiful colour on almost all people!

Lippies - I don't know what to recommed. I find lippies to be so subjective. My favorites are bitten, nectar, aria, but these are all decidedly cool colours, and from the sounds of it you are warmer, so you might like Cultured, which is fairly neutral.

hope this helps!

Based on the shadows that you own, I can recommend the following combos:

Bone + Eu-taupe-ia + sierra = you could put bone as highlight, Eu-taupe-ia as all over lid and crease or line with Sierra = nice daytime look
You could also try to line the above with Slate

You already have Moonstone with Slate, but you could add Bone to that too, for inner corner and/or highligh

You could do Moonstone all over lid and crease / outer V with sierra

In the above three, you could replace Moonstone and Eu-tapue-ia with Tailfeather.

Bone and Cabana mixed on the lid may make a nice combo: put bone in inner half and cabana in outer and blend.

Nekkid all over lid, lined with Sierra

I'm not familar with Nova, and IDK doesn't really fit the rest of the colors you have, but you can always just use it all over lid and line with Slate, or crease with one of the taupe/lighter browns you have.

A good way to find out what may work together is just swatching them on the back of your hand to see what they may look like. It should give you an idea, but remember, things may look different when on lid :)
You could start by trying to add one non-neutral color to your neutral combos: like line your neutral eyes with a teal or blue shadow.

Based on your coloring and your current shadows, I really recommend that you get Boom: it's an awesome neutral that can be paired with just about any color on the lid, and it's great for highlighting too. Bare may be another good choice for you, a bit darker than Boom. I also second the color recommendations of la_canadiense.
I would also add Sandstone and High Beam as they go really well with Cabana.

For lippies, you could probably do well with Maiden for easy makeup days and Fashionista, just to amp up the neutrals a bit :) Precious is a pretty neutral with shimmer.
Rare Berry is a nice one, and Pout is a light pink that looks good on all skin tones. If you're looking for a red, a good neutral one would be Hot Blooded, but Sultry might work too.
Centerfold is my favorite, I'm just not sure it would look on you.

Good luck picking!

Let me just start by saying, thank you! I really appreciate the time that you both took to respond to my post. You’ve made me so happy :D
La canadiense, thanks for all the great color picks. They’re all so pretty! You’ve helped me narrow down my picks considerably. I was a little overwhelmed because there are so many great colors. As for my eye shadow colors, none of them look weird on my skin tone, however, Nekkid is my favorite.

You know, I received Nectar as a sample, and I thought it wouldn't look right on me, but it turned out to be flattering.

I have the worst luck with pictures, but as soon as I take a decent one, I will post it because I really need and want the make-up advice.

Egerandi, that’s so cool that you made all of those color combinations for me, thank you!

From now on I am using the back of my hand to try out the eye shadow colors and combos, that’s such a good idea! I’ve always done that with lipstick, but never with eye shadow. I am trying to make a conscious effort to wear make-up, especially eye shadow, it’s so pretty and it makes me feel polished.

You know I just plain loved the swatch for Centerfold, but when I tried it on, it was too brown on me. I am definitely going to get either Maiden or Cultured, or maybe both, and Mirabelle too.

I am going to follow your advice and order a neutral to combine with some of the colors la canadiense recommended. Would Quartzite work as a neutral to pair with Vineyard and Idolize, or should I go with Boom or Bare? The Stone Washed Nudes have just the right amount of glitter, and that’s why I am leaning towards Quartzite. I really think Boom and Bare are gorgeous colors though, and I would probably choose one of those two, but I worry about too much sparkle. How glittery are they in comparison?

Thank you both for your kindness, consideration, and your suggestions :D

You're welcome, that back-of-hand sampling should really help :)

Now, Quartzite is a very pretty neutral, but when I wear it, it's more like part of a brownish/warmish combo, but that's just me. I use Boom when I'm looking for a more neutral and lighter companion to the other colors. It does have a bit of a shine, but you can blend it out if it bothers you.
