Also need help with lip color suggestions

Post by serendipity » Mon Dec 07, 2009 8:46 am

I have a wishlist with Breathless, Hot Blooded, and Prelude...but was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for me? I guess I have medium pigmented lips that seem to constantly be peeling no matter how much nourishing lip balms or stuff I use. The colors I tend to go for are on the soft pink side of shades I guess. Here are a few of my favorite shades from other companies to help: E.l.f. hypershine lipgloss in Fairy, elf mineral lipgloss in Au Naturale, Pageant Princess, and Trendsetter (though trendsetter is a bit darker than I usually go for, but still nice). Au Naturale is extremely close to my own natural lip color. I also really like soft peachy colors, but don't currently have any lipglosses that shade. My skintone is pretty neutral, eyes are blue, hair is red.

Any suggestions? :)

Hi Serendipity - I'm not sure what to recommend for colour, but I'd strongly recommend that you get a Black Label lippy to nourish and comfort your lips. There are colourless ones with a hint of flavour, and one called Pure which is flavourless and colourless. This should really help get your lips back into great condition. Then the Coconut Organic Lip Balm or any of the newly released flavoured balms will help keep them in great shape day to day.

i would also recommend the brown sugar and vanilla lip scrub. it doesn't look like much, but last year my lips were a dry, cracked, even bleeding mess, and this whipped them into shape. plus it tastes yummy :D
i also recommend a black label lippy...my fave are the clear flavored ones.
for a color, nectar is my favorite lippy. i didn't think i'd like it looking at it in the tube (it looks really dark) but it's so lovely and i think it would look good on anybody. i don't have any of the current peachy glosses, so i'm sorry that i can't help with that one.

Based on those, Breathless would be nice on you. You could also check out Ice Princess if you want more liquid glosses. Peace might work too, it's a pretty soft pink with a bit of shimmer. Cupcake mentioned the black label ones, and you might want to give Area or Rhapsody a try. Check out the swatches, they are both nice and muted; most ladies find them to be MLBB. That way, you kill two birds : color + super moisture :)

Hot Blooded looks good on just about anyone, so it's a good way to start the reds. I don't own Prelude, but it sounds like that's close to what you usually wear as well.

Now, would you like to remain within your safety zone, or want to venture out a bit? If the latter, where would you like to go? Bolder pinks? More neutral neutrals? Reds? What is your skin tone, hair color?

Haha, I knew someone would say that...I'm not too much of a risk taker, but I might be up for a little bit of fun. My skin tone is pretty neutral, hair color is red/red-brown, eyes are blue. I wore a really pale neutral color once, and it looked absolutely horrid on me..like I had died! I have been using my Bonnie Bell liplite in cappaccino lately (a very neutral color, but not as deathlike as the previous lipstick...maybe because it's a gloss so it has a bit of shine. I also like to layer that over other colors to kind of mute them down. I have quite afew e.l.f. mineral lipsticks (got rid of the absolutely horrible ones on me), but I find I'm much more likely to go towards sometihng like a gloss since it's not as drying and I like the shine. Thanks for mentioning Aria -- I was eyeing that one as well :)

Oh, and what does MLBB stand for?

How often do you do the brown sugar scrub...and is is something I could make myself to save a bit?

MLBB = My Lips but better

I make a brown sugar scrub (brown sugar & EVOO) for my body but I haven't used it on my lips. I'm not sure what Karen puts in hers & haven't tried it yet. I have read very positive reviews of it though.
EVOO = Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Hi Serendipity,
I know we have similar coloring and I haven't tried many of the lip colors yet, but I really like Nectar for everyday wear. :) I am also liking Black Dahlia, but that is more on the color side than what I normally wear, so I am not sure if it is too purple for you.

I have Bitten on the way to try a red. I will let you know what I think. I love the advice you have gotten from the others. Be sure to let us know what you think of the colors you do decide to get. ;)

Lip scrub ingredients: Brown Sugar, Avocado Butter, Olive Butter, Honey, Vanilla Seeds, Natural Vanilla Flavor
not sure where you would get avocado and olive butter (other than online), and vanilla seeds would be pricey to buy, but you could try to mix up your own with olive oil, brown sugar, and honey. i think the avocado butter is really supposed to be good stuff though. it moisturizes reaaaally well.
