I have been using this for a little over a week. I use it at night after cleansing most nights. Aftera few weeks, I plan to use it every other day or so. So far, the feel of my skin is much smoother and firmer. I have had a few small breakouts, but I would expect that from this type of product. I love this one!

I've heard before that using AHAs can cause breakouts at first but I can't remember the reason behind it. Can anyone enlighten me please? Is this also true for the BHAs?

From what I understand, it is cleaning out your pores along with exfoliating the layers of skin. Skin purges a bit from the pore cleaning. For me, they are the small non-red breakouts...just a small whitehead, and they have gone away quickly.

I am very thankful it is not one of the big, red, and sore ones (I get one of those about every few months or so around my jawline.)

Ah phew! That's good news. I've half remembered a friend who dabbled with an Australian brand specialising in high-strength AHAs and the breakouts she had were worryingly severe and angry because of overdosing on them. Trouble is, they had high-strength AHAs in every product - cleanser, toner, treatments, masks, moisturiser and so on. I can't imagine what volume of AHA that amounted to. I guess they need to be treated with respect and it's great Karen makes wise choices in formulating so we can use them safely. I'd like to give these a go now that I've more confidence in this, specifically.

I tried it, but discontinued use because I was getting huge sore zits! I occasionally get a couple zits, but they are never red and sore like that....so I figured the junk could just stay under my skin where it doesn't bother me - purging makes me self conscious.

I have read this in a previous post... but just wanted to know what your experience is - would you recommend to use AHA permanently? or rather for a few weeks and after that only every now and then?

You don't want to over-exfoliate, so some of it will depend on your skin. If you haven't used an AHA before, I'd start out with once or twice a week, because it is an acid. If you don't get irritated from that and skin does need some de-clogging, then try using it every night or every other night for a week or two, then go back to using it one to three times per week to keep your pores clean. Again, it depends on your skin. I'd use it regularly, just not everyday for an extended period of time.
