I'm ordering right now (YAY!!) and was wondering if you could also recommend a bronzing perfecting powder: Love Lure, Dait Bait or Tempt Tryst... or should I stick with sheer?JenW wrote:Nope. No Peach. At your depth, it kind of starts looking more pink than yellow.Christina1121 wrote:JenW wrote:Christina1121-
I am thinking Olive, or possibly Warm Gold.
Olive: 1 scoop color to about 10 white
Warm Gold: 1 scoop color to about 7 white
This is a good starting point for Original Coverage or All Purpose Foundation. You might need to add one or two more scoops of white, but they will be close. I definitely recommend trying samples in case there is something that does not agree with your skin, or the finish is not quite right. There are many things we can add to adjust the color and finish. All Purpose Foundation is the simplest formulation, and usually works with all skin types.
Thank you! I'm anxious to try it out! Do you think I'll need any peach?

My perfect foundation:

Tempt Tryst is pretty yellow toned. Love Lure will be the color of bronzer on you as it is generally for darker skintones. Date Bait is kind of pink. I really recommend the sheer Perfecting Powder for you for all over your face unless the pink appeals to you (I prefer Date Bait and we are of similar coloring). If you need a bronzer that is slightly glowy, try Beach Bunny.

So I was totally absent that day in junior high when they taught how to be a girl. I know nothing about make up!

I hope the lighting is sufficient enough to get a good idea of my skin tone. Also, what are some blush colors that I might look at? I appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you so much in advance!

Hey Jen, I tried the All Purpose and I actually had to add a bit more ebony because oddly it came out too pale! It still seems a bit pale if I swatch it on my face but once I spread it out, it looks great. I'll need a few more days to really decide if I will switch to All Purpose, but it does feel a bit more... invisible! I had been using the lavender because sometimes it felt I was getting a bit orange (I am not always very accurate in my scooping so sometimes my mix might have turned out a bit too dark), but next order I make I will get some yellow booster and try it out, see what happens. Thanks for the helpJenW wrote:zus-
In switching to All Purpose, I would just start with the Ebony portion. Start at 1:9. I am guessing you will need a few more scoops of white with the newer formula. The lavendar addition will tone down yellow. I am not sure you will need this addition, but I would start by geting the depth correct. If anything, I think you might need the addition of a tad of Yellow Booster. Your skin is fair and sometimes there are colors that need to be added back in once the color is diluted out a bit.

I think you are pretty neutral and will fall somewhere in our Olive or Olive with Ebony range. For Olive: 1 scoop color to about 14 whitesnowflake_zx wrote:So I was totally absent that day in junior high when they taught how to be a girl. I know nothing about make up!

Ebony: 1 scoop color to about 8 or 9 white
You may need a little of both mixes to get your perfect match, but I would start with Olive alone.
For blush, since you are new to this, try Flirt, Rosie, or Afterglow. These will be more natural colors for you. Once you get the hang of it, try a sample of anything that looks interesting! Sometimes the blush colors that you think will be out there become your favorites!

Thank you so much for your help! I would have never guessed that.
Re: Need Foundation Help? Please post here.......
I'm having difficulty hitting the nail on the head with my foundation formula. All Ebony in Ivory gives me a slightly pink/grey cast after a few hours. Trying 1 Ebony: 1/2 Olive: 15 Ivory was too light -- I added a bit more Olive and it was too dark -- I dumped in the leftover 1 Ebony:9 Ivory that I had and the pink/grey cast came back. Since I had used up most of my Original Formula sample at that point, I moved on to the my All-Purpose sample. I mixed the 1 teaspoon bag of All-Purpose with 2 scoops Ebony and 1 scoop of Olive. This looked great at first, but as soon as it mixed with the oils on my face, which took only a couple of minutes, it turned noticeably green/dark. I did have a primer and sunscreen/tinted moisturizer on underneath for my usual zinc/titanium SPF. Maybe my skin is too oily for the All-Purpose formula? The Ebony is really almost right, just a tiny bit too pink/grey. Olive helps, but just a bit too much of it and my skin turns green. Has anyone ever needed a blue Color Booster? I don't want to add the Lavender Color Corrector because I don't want more pink. I'm wondering if I can try the Royal matte blue eye shadow (obviously a teeny amount) as a color booster with the Ebony. I'm thinking my skin tone may be an extremely light cool beige, since most foundations seem either too yellow (most common), too peach (yellow + pink) or just plain too dark for me, minus the grand total of 2 that are just a teeny bit pink/grey. I had considered extremely light Olive, but since the Olive easily turns too green on me, I don't think that's it. If the pigment primaries are yellow, pink and blue, then it seems like to get more to a more beige color from one that's too peach I should add blue; from one that's too pink, both blue and yellow, but the Olive seems to be more yellow than blue. I'm thinking that just Ebony + blue might not have enough yellow. Maybe adding a touch of Olive, or Yellow Color Booster, or the yellow Sleep in a Jar if the Color Booster would be too intense?
Even though the Original formula offers lighter coverage than I'm looking for, I think the feel and finish of this foundation is really beautiful, and that the good ingredients are such a wonderful change from what the big commercial companies are offering, so I'd like to make it work for me. I plan to order more samples and keep trying. Suggestions welcome!

I would say the blue is worth a try. I have not come across this before, so I can't be of much help, other than add the blue in slowly. It does contain ultramarines, so the Royal eyeshadow itself is not lip safe. And almost all blue color correctors are colored with ultramarines, too, and the Royal is just more intense in color.Rosy1 wrote:I'm having difficulty hitting the nail on the head with my foundation formula. Thank you, Jen, I'm going to try it. I'll let you know how it turns out. It's possible that I'm nuts. But when I tried a blue color-correcting primer in my face once, it looked bright and natural and pretty, not weird, and reduced my redness better than green correctors do. So I think it's worth a try. There has to be some reason why nothing looks quite right on me. Besides being different colors on different parts of my face because of the rosacea, of courseJenW wrote:

Re: Need Foundation Help? Please post here.......
Hello, I'm new to mineral makeup (always worn liquid since I need heavy coverage due to rosacea) but would love to try SN heavy coverage. I've always thought I was cool but wondered if maybe it would be better to try something slightly yellow to counteract the red tones in my skin. Here is a very old pic of me (wearing Revlon Colorstay in Ivory I think - worn this for so long as it's the only foundation I've found that is a reasonable color match and offers good coverage). I've found that I do look best in cool colored clothes however, especially navy and that any browns on my eyes look horrendous. My hair is now much lighter and more honey colored although it's naturally very ash brown. Any advice would be much appreciated. TBH I'm a little intimidated about actually mixing a foundation.
