Hi there!
I'm new to SN but have heard so many raves, I'm dying to give it a try.
I only really started wearing foundation a year ago. No drugstore liquids that i tried through the years looked right, felt right, or didn't do my face harm. I'm a pretty sensitive skinned girl! So I never wore base at all. Then As I turned 38.5/ 39 my face started having a hormonal/stress freak out! Between that and some sun spots I was really feeling self conscious so I tried really hard to find something natural to work for me. Physician's Formula was first- Creamy Natural was too dark. I finally found a match with EDM in Beige- Sandy Fair... which is the lightest of the Beige family and while I continued to have sensitivity to the base and continued with my skin issues, I moved on to Meow. I found a match with Sleek Siamese which is considered a neutral. I use Pampered Puss by Meow daily.
But I really do want to try SN and see if it's the HG I've been looking for. And I'm sorry I haven't read this entire thread, so maybe there is someone with the same shades I am and I should have found that out first!

I did just try to take a couple of pics bare faced in the sun. You can see I have a couple of healing blemishes, sun/age spots & some discoloration/ scarring. I do NOT heal well, and being fair, everything shows... plus I have a lot of general ruddiness now. My cheeks get pink and if you touch me anywhere I get blotchy and red. But I don't have a pink undertone. I'm pretty neutral, except for the sensitive blotchy red areas! LOL
And you can see I'm old and tired and I get bags.
So I need recs for color that will match and concealer that will work and the whole schmear PLEASE!
Here's me. Sorry I look like something the cat drug in- it's 90% humidity today and we went to the pool. (I sat under the umbrella the entire time :) )

I can provide more pics if needed, but don't make me. I feel terrible enough about this one as it is!
*Just edited to try to reduce picture size. Holy crap we don't need to see me that big! YIKES!

Carogee, you are gorgeous! I had to do a double take at your age because you totally don't look it! What beautiful eyes you have...would look so pretty with a coppery eyeshadow.

I'm sure Jen will have good recommendations for your foundation blend, but I wanted to mention that I wear the medium coverage foundation base because I feel it is a bit better at covering up my acne scars, blotchiness, and hyperpigmentation (my skin shows every little mark!), so you might want to try it if the original formula doesn't have quite enough coverage for you. I've also found using the green tea and aloe serum and then the zinc powder as a primer underneath my foundation soothes the redness and sensitivity, helps with hydration, and is healing for my skin, so you might give some samples of them a try! :D

Hi carogee,

I think you will fall into Olive or Ebony. Ebony will be 1 scoop Ebony to about 9 Ivory. Olive will work out to be 1 scoop Olive to about 16-17 Ivory. I match them both, but tend to go Olive to help more with the redness (as do many of our Olive customers). For under eye concealers, try Light Peach in the creamy, or Extra Light Peach in the powder formula. For a general concealer, mix a heavier/lighter version of your foundation, if your foundatin is not enough.

And if you need to try a lip gloss, try Fig Leaf or Sweet Nothing. ;)

Did you want recs for blush/finisher/eyeshadow, too?

superwahz-
Aren't you sweet... You may need a re-check by your eye care professional  But you are definitely very sweet!
I think me being chubby may very well plump out some of my wrinkles, LOL. Plus I was running on 2 nights of no sleep and I really felt bad about that pic. Sweaty, tired, blotchy, not a stitch of makeup on. (Ok I had one swipe of mascara and some clear spf lip balm. Does that count?!)
I think I may get some of the medium coverage as well when I order. Maybe my perfect blend would incorporate some of each? Is that possible or must you stick with one foundation 'type'? And I have a zinc powder sample in my list as well. Thanks for the recs and your kind words. I appreciate it tremendously.

JenW-
Ok, so I should try to make a batch of each flavor and see which works better? Or should I try to incorporate a touch of both? Maybe try playing with the 1 ebony: 9 ivory blend and then add in just a few sprinkles of olive and a bit more ivory or something? This mixing has me nervous and I'll admit is why I didn't try SN right away after EDM but went to Meow first.... :geek: I"M SCARED TO MIX!!!

I'm hoping the creamy concealer works for me. Right now I'm using EDM Clear which is the hydrated version concealer and it works nicely under the eyes. Nothing hides all my little lines, but it doesn't settle in like straight powder. But Clear is a little dark sometimes for scars on my neck. I'm thinking of the zinc powder for primer, and perfecting Glow and perfecting powder? Do some people actually add these right to their mix? If I get the Perfect Harmony sample kit and also a sample of the medium, I should be able to make something work?

I'm ok with no recs on shadows and blushes etc... I play with all of that a lot and am already trying to figure out how to mix up some colors to make a color of what a PICTURE looks like of a Sassy shade we're discussing on another board- but the Sassy shade in real life doesn't come off anything like the picture shows it, lol. So I've got SN Cougar and SN Quartzite in my wishlist to get and play with someday to make what I think this other color SHOULD look like :-p
And I am eyeing the SN Nectar l/g which is the dupe of Clinique Black Honey. I love that one and wanna try the SN dupe ... in one of the reviews someone said it's just a touch darker and better so I'm dying to try it! Also Black Dahlia! My lips are quite pigmented already so really light things look weird on them, even with my fair skin.
Thanks so much for your help! :)

carogee-

I would try to keep your recipe as simple as possible. It is best to mix up each base mix on its own, and then you can do ratios of the two if needed. I can work back to a single recipe if necessary for you from the ratios.

I'm technically not new at all to Silk Naturals but I don't think I ever got my foundation color right. I have the hardest time with colors mainly because I am a weird mix of olive and yellow. I use MAC NC 42, 44 depending on what time of the year it is but its always just a touch off (orangish). Can you please help? Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

michb46- I think you will be in our Olive range. I think you might also need our Yellow Booster. I am guessing about a 1Olive:4 or 5 Ivory plus a few scoops of Yellow booster (add one at a time)

Our Buttery Gold base will match you just about perfectly, but might still be a little too light...Olive is much darker. It has the correct undertones and might work at a 1:1 ratio. The Buttery Gold color base straight is not an ideal mix, as the ingredients that make the great texture in our foundation are in the white bases.

I just placed my first order with Silk Naturals, and am looking forward to trying it out. I'm hoping to get a little help mixing up a good color for my skin. Previously I had been using EDM Golden Fair with a bit of Sunkissed Fair mixed in towards the end of the summer. I also use MAC NC15 occasionally, but find a bit dark on me, and Laura Mercier's Porcelain. I am pretty much a really pale neutral color, leaning more towards golden tones. I once had an Estee Lauder rep talk me into a rosy ivory foundation and it was horrible on me. I looked sickly.

The second picture is in natural light, after a day or two out in the sun. I'm a little more reddish in that pic than usual.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I think a good place to starts is Warm Gold 1:10 Ivory. You might need a few more scoops Ivory, though. Although since you wore Golden Fair, Buttery Gold in about the same ratio might match better.
