TammyH wrote:This is what I have on my list so far, so any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated:
Perfect Harmony sample kit in medium coverage ( I am thinking of ordering a sample of the original as well just in case the medium is too heavy)
Date Bait
Pristine (I love that this is the match to BE Pure Radiance - I used it years ago and fell in love with it)
Unblush (for my redness - I have tried green concealers in the past and they make me look sick)
Sleep in a jar (for under eye circles - but I am wondering if I need the extra light peach???)
I never could quite get unblush to work for me, but i think I'm in the minority on that one- i would recommend sampling it first. The main difference between the Sleep in a jar colors IMO is that yellow will cancel out darkness and brighten the eye area while the peaches conceal and blend imperfections in with your natural skin color. Personally I top a yellow based cream concealer with extra light sleep in a jar.

Also, I read on another website that the best way to apply SN is with the flat top long handle brush - is this true? While I'm not wanting to spend $17.50 on a brush - if it helps, then I will. Right now I am using the brush I got with my last purchase of BE (not the kabuki brush).
Thanks for your help...
A flattop will give you more coverage regardless of the foundation brand. While I prefer a flattop with almost every other fdt i rotate through (or a sponge for applying wet), I actually prefer a kabuki for SN. SN tends to have more of a soft focus effect(for me) than other fdt and i find i prefer the lighter coverage. I do maintain that nothing beats a synthetic brush if the brush you are currently using is not synthetic. Synthetics pick up more powder and hold their shape a lot better than other brushes and are super soft and gentle on your skin (and since they don't get brittle and break with use/cleaning, they STAY soft). eta: I have a lot of brushes, but if you only want to start with one synthetic, I recommend a kabuki. You can achieve a similar coverage to a flat top using a kabuki by slipping a mini rubber band over the handle and sliding it up over the bristles (to pull them together, compacting them and making them denser). You can also just hold the bristles instead of the handle when using for a similar effect. When not compacted, a kabuki is great for finishing powders and lighter coverage, but can also be used for heavier coverage.

Here's my jar of Abbott's:
And 1 scoop of Medium coverage Ivory = ? scoops of original ivory
Thank you

I am not familiar with the current EDM concealers. You might be able to get a more definite answer from someone else. From the pics, I am guessing Light Peach.

I want to say possibly Warm Gold or Olive. The lighting in your pic makes you look kind of pink, but I am thinking it is just the lighting. Any hints as what has worked in the past?
Warm Gold about 1:8 or 9
Olive about 1:12-14

Duh *forehead smack* I was so excited that I've made enough of a dent in my stash that I could justify moving on to greener pastures that I forgot to tell you what I'd been wearing.

My apologies! In EDM I wear Ivory in the winter & a mix 50/50 mix of Linen & Cool Fair in the summer. Ivory & Linen are from the 'buff' category - neutral undertones. My veins appear blue rather than green & I look better in cool to neutral colors rather than warm. Years ago I was typed as a Summer for those that remember Color Me Beautiful. (I know I'm dating myself!) My cheeks do have a bit of pink/red flush normally.
Picture was taken outdoors in partial shade with a flash.

I would probably start with Ebony then at about a 1:9. And you must get Date Bait......

If it turns out that the Ebony mix looks a little flat, adding a little Warm Gold or using/adding the Date Bait usually helps.

Thanks so much Jen! Off to start mixing! I have Date Bait & love it! It's responsible for helping me use up my stash of foundation - made it look much better. I'm not sure how to phrase that as a selling point that benefits SN - foundation look chalky? try Date Bait, color off? try Date Bait foundation doesn't look smooth on your skin? get Date Bait

Thanks again!

I've been using SN since the only base option was ebony. I love the foundation and the perfection powder is my favorite! I need to reorder and mix up a new batch soon. Since this forum is here with such good advise I want to see if I'm using the right mix for my skin tone or if it's time to try something new . I usually mix 5 mini scoops ebony, 1 mini scoop warm gold, and 1tsp (+ a little more) medium ivory. In the pics with makeup, this was the ratio. It seems that I may be mixing it too dark by what I've read from other posts? Also, I'm very pink on my nose, cheeks, and chin. I've tried the green color corrector and it doesn't really work for me. I don't use blush because my cheeks are all ready so pink...should I wear blush? If so, what color would you recommend?
Thanks!
Sorry for the huge pics...I don't know how to make them smaller.

Very cool to meet another old timer! Your mix works out roughly to 1color : just a little over 5 Ivory...with the little bit we will call it 6. Ebony is also the lightest of the color bases. Just in that, I think you would be about a 1:8 (6:48.... 48 scoops = 1 1/2 tsp ). Your mix is not that far off, but enough to notice a difference once it is adjusted. For trying something new, I think the pink on your nose, cheeks, and chin can be toned down a little with Olive base. I really think you ought to give it a try, and I recommend a sample first. I think your ratio will be close to mine at about 1:12-14. The slight green in the foundation may help tone down the redness (I depend on this for my cheek area). It is worth a shot. Otherwise, I think you may just need more Ivory in your current mix so you will land in the 1:8 range.

Hey Jen! Been thinking about ordering a foundationsamplekit, but I'm useless at deciding what basecolour I should use. My first thought was ebony, my veins are blue/purple and I'm pretty pale even in the summer but mostly my face, maybe I'm cold or neutral? I dont know haha My face is also also has a bit of a red/pink tone. I got some reddish acnescarring on my cheek I'm mostly concerned about, I've tried a sample of the unblush but It didnt do much only made it more dry and almost more noticeble. I'm a bit concered since I've heard silica is pretty drying and my skin is allready dry so I wonder if SNfoundation would work for me or not. I've added a pic I'ts pretty small but I hope you can figure it out anyways.
cheers

I think Ebony. 1 bet you will need one scoop of color plus around 9 or 10 Ivory scoops. If you decide it is kind of flat, Date Bait will help.
As for the silica it is a small amount and, as with any ingredient/product, your experience will likely be different than others. With the Unblush or any concealer, you still have to make sure your skin is well exfoliated and hydrated. Some with general redness have had success with Olive foundation. Since you are neutral-ish, it might work. For Olive you will be a 1:15+ ratio.
