JenW wrote:The 1:5 is definitely too dark. I think you will be closer to 1:8. I also think it is a little too yellow, but that could be remedied by adding a little more white, as yellow is the first color to dilute out (red/pink is usually the last, brown somewhere in the middle). I do think Buttery Gold or Olive from looking at your pic with no makeup. The olive tones in Buttery Gold or Olive base will help with the redness in your complexion to get a match closer to your chest. A ratio for Olive is about 1:12. I don't think the pink is the foundation. There is some pink in your skintone. Also, I think most skintones in your depth wash out in the winter time. Your recipe from winter to summer will not be the same, even though they will be close.
In looking at the pics again, I really think Olive. I don't see a whole lot of yellow in your face, but maybe slight in your chest and neck. It could be that your face skintone is just a little pinker. The olive might tone down the pinkness that is in your face to bring it to a closer match to your chest. It is at least worth a try. (Your skintone looks very similar to mine.)
Thanks for the suggestions! It's true that I change color slightly during the summer.
I've tried both the ratios, and on my chest the Olive seems to be a slighly better match than the BG. In my face I would say the Olive as well, although I'd like to neutralize the pink even more and maybe add a hint of yellow. Is that perfectionist, i.e. an unachievable goal? It just annoys me, in my eyes there's too much difference between my chest and face!
What do you think?

I can't really tell from the picture which is better....they both look pretty good. I know things sometimes look differein in real life. I think the best way to control the amount of yellow would be to go with the Olive mix and add Yellow Booster (add a little at a time until it is right...like add a whole scoop at first, then halves). That way you can add as little or as much yellow as you think you need. It is fine to be a perfectionist....as long as you have the patience for it!

Hi Jen & everyone,
I'm a true EDM Olive Medium and want to try SN because of the option for Heavy Coverage. However, I've tried several combinations between Olive, Warm & Buttery Gold but could not find the perfect match. Do you or anyone have the recipe for an EDM Olive Medium? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

I don't know of a mix that is exact. Can you tell me what you have tried and why they did not work?

I used to have EDM olive medium during summer.
Now in winter I am a bit paler and then i use a mixture of two scoops of olive, one scoop buttery gold and 20 scoops of ivory.
Maybe that helps?

Hehe =) we'll see. My patience usually goes up and down...
Regarding adding yellow, I know there is the yellow booster but in the batch I have at home right now I don't have that. Is there anything I could do with what I have now? I have BG and Tempt Tryst. Is the yellow component in any of them strong enough to be used? And can their other components be neutralized when mixing?
Thanks a big fat bunch for all the help so far! It's been timely, patient and excellent!

Adding TT might do it without adding much more olive.....and it will add a little glow to your foundation in the process.....a little is a good thing. Definitely give it a try. Maybe a scoop or two to your overall Olive mix.

I might be a little slow right now, could you clarify what you mean with "overall mix"? Like 1 Olive:1-2 TT:12 Ivory?

Yes....1 Olive:1-2 TT:12 Ivory. You might need to lighten it slightly with a scoop or two more of the Ivory.

I tried 1 scoop warm gold with 9 or 10 ivory. I can not tell if it is right.

Also what concealers or finishing powders should I try? Im having some trouble covering up my pores and my skin is pretty dry. I dont usually like anything with shimmer because it just accentuates how uneven my skin is. Thanks!
