Trainer,

Thanks for pointing out the shea butter!! I have an allergy to latex (mild, only occurs w/ consistent use), I always check for it in skincare, but not lip care (My facial skin also reacts to TD, but my lips don't).
I've used Smooth and Full off and on for months, but started using it daily for a week and over night my lips got HUGE. They looked like I had them injected, the downside was they burned and itched for days (it was very painful). My facial skin was a lumpy, bumpy, red mess for months when I was using skincare products w/ shea butter!!!
Jen,
Do you have any food allergies? Shea butter allergies are very closely connected to tree nut allergies.
You mentioned TD, is that titanium dioxide? My son use to be allergic to that, he can tolerate it now in skin care.
Allergies are nasty things, aren't they? You have to be super vigilant! I'm sorry about the reaction you had to the lippie! Did you try taking a little Benadryl to relieve the reddness and swelling?
I thought it was fantastic that Karen changed the formula so quickly, once she was aware of the problem shea butter can pose. Just another reason I'm a loyal customer!

Hmmmm, I just ordered the Smooth and Full black label to see if it plumps as well as Barcelona...and I have latex allergies (rash within minutes, chemical bronchitis from inhaling glove powder). Guess I'll be cutting off a piece to test with for the next week in case I react to it and it needs to go on my swap list! ;)

I have one other black label lippie but I don't wear it often (thanks to the dozens of other lippies I have!), so I wouldn't have noticed a reaction. I have to rotate eating things like avocado, cherries, and tomatoes...and can't really eat mango, pineapple, and kiwi fruit (among other things). So we'll see what happens!

Thanks for posting about this Trainer and JenK! I rarely use shea butter so had no clue it could cause reactions in latex sensitive people. Always nice to have a heads up about these things! :D

Trainer,

I really don't have any food allergies. If I eat a ton of dairy my eczema acts up, but it has to be a huge amount. I did the allergy shot thing for years, I really should start back up.
I am the opposite of your son, I wore sunscreen w/ Td in it for years and then I started reacting. I have a very over active immune system, so I now know I can react to anything at any time. I have have no proof of this, but I swear growing up w/ a smoking parent caused me to be an allergic mess.
Benadryl did nothing for my lips but make me sleepy. That is very nice of Karen to change the formula. My doctor told me she is seeing more and more reactions due to plant actives in skincare. Makes sense w/ everyone having allergies these days.
I have the funniest scar on my knee from when I was 15 (Yikes, that is almost 23 years ago). My knee was a mess from a fall I took (playing tennis of all things) and got very infected. I didn't know at the time about my latex allergy b/c I never used anything w/ it for more than a day or 2. I ended up w/ a scar on my entire knee cap and around it a rectangle scar from the huge Band-Aid I wore.

You may get lucky and not react. Shea Butter contains a natural latex that is similar in chemical makeup to the latex that comes from the Rubber Tree. Some people w/ latex allergies (from the rubber tree) don't react to the latex found in Shea Butter.

My face a was a nightmare before it clicked! DUH!!!!
