Hi, I just ordered a sample kit, and I was wondering what mixes I should try out. I am a light olive in edm. Here are some pictures, one with me in direct sunlight, and the other in a room, but being lit by sunlight. Sorry for the scary face >_<, but I think that one is more true to my coloring. Under indoor lighting i feel like i look greener.
Thanks!

mieko-
You will probably need Warm Gold or Buttery Gold. Both have olive undertones with the addition of yellow in varying amounts.
I would start at a 1 scoop color to 6 or 7 Ivory.

Loving the idea of custom mixing my foundation. So I need to know where to start.

I'm a MAC NW20, currently wearing Cool Medium from EM.

lairkeeper,

Based upon what you wear, I think you will be in the Ebony and Peach range........since the Peach no longer comes in the sample kit with all the base colors, you will need to order them seperately. In Ebony, I am guessing 1:6.....in Peach (one of our darkest bases) 1:10-12. Probably some kind of blend of the two will be about right. I would mix up a batch of each, and then try seperately.....if you need more pink, lean Peach, and if you need more brown, lean Ebony.

How would I go about duping Buff Linen (winter) and Buff Fairly Summer (summer) foundation from EDM in SN colours? Buff is a neutral; they're a bit more to the yellow side (while Beige is a bit more to the pink side if I recall correctly). The special thing about both colours is that they both consist of a Buff and Olive base mixed 1 : 1. I think I have found my match, but I feel that it's too powdery and really conspicuous because of that; I heard that many people find SN to be more creamy.

Thanks lots!

Ellwinge,
Your photos really point to our Olive base, but photos don't always tell the whole story. The only other one that might be close is our Warm Gold. (Warm Gold is the one for you if the Olive does not have enough yellow.)

Try WarmGold 1:8-9 (1 scoop color to 8 or 9 Ivory)
or Olive 1:11-12 Ivory

Hi *waves*,

I wear Golden Fair in EDM but I'd like to try Silk Naturals foundation. What would you recommend? My initial thoughts are Buttery Gold and lots of Ivory! I know I'm not cool, peachy or olive and I'm not really warm either but I thought I'd check with the experts before ordering :)

If it helps my veins are greeny-blue but maybe just a touch more on the green side. I can wear all colours except very warm ones, e.g. red/yellow/orange/warm browns. I do tan, just very slowly, then I go a very golden brown colour. I do burn very easily too if I'm not careful. My natural hair colour is a little darker than in the photo and my eyes are blue.

Hi Dr. Kate,

Yes, Buttery gold and lots of Ivory. Try 1:12 for starters, and add more Ivory if you need it. I think Cupcake wore Golden Fair and she is a Buttery Gold 1:16 or so.

Hurrah, I got it right! Thank you Jen :D

To be fair I've been experimenting for a while so that's the only reason I was on the right track. Six months ago I was convinced I was cool-toned, years of bright orange foundation from make-up counters left me convinced that I couldn't possibly have yellow-toned skin. Turns out those foundations were just far too dark rather than the wrong colour.

So excited, going to place my order tonight :)
