Does this look right, Jen? I think my chin and forehead are different colors. :?:

It sure looks like they are two different colors. You have to add in the margin of error for the camera, though. It may look like that in the pics, but IRL it might be fine. I can't really tell without a doubt just based on a picture. What does bronzer do for your forehead? Also, did you have bangs for a good portion of your life? (I know it is a weird question, but isn't your skin lighter 'where the sun don't shine'? ;) )

Hm...now that you mention it, I did have bangs for the first 20 years or so of my life. It's been almost another 10 without them though. You're right, it looks normal in person but for some reason, my forehead is always shinier and tends to show up a different color in pictures. I'm wondering...should I use a different product for my forehead? Like mix a different color and/or layer it on more? Any ideas?

Edit: actually, bronzer might work. It looks really strange in person but for pictures it's not like it would look any funnier than my already shiny glowing different colored forehead.

Hi all,

I recently got my Silk Naturals foundation kit, and am very excited to mix my own foundation! Problem is, i'm terrible at figuring out my own skin tone; I have no idea if I have pink, yellow, or some other undertone, and skin tone tests don't work as well. (the test where you see if the veins on your wrist are blue or green? mine look blue-green to me  haha) Could some kind soul help me figure out what base colours I should be mixing up? I'm Asian Chinese, so I would imagine there's some yellow in there...here are some of my photos for reference, all bare-faced(sorry no full face, but my jawline and neck area should be good enough right?)

Under white artificial light, no flash

Under natural light, no flash( for some reason all the shots look a bit different so i'm posting them all in case. maybe it's the angle of the light)

I actually mixed up a batch using 1 buttery gold: 13 original ivory since I thought that I might have yellow undertones and that might work. But, something seems off about it and i'm not sure what. Maybe the colour is too...dull? or sandy? or brown? sorry I don't have a picture of the swatch, I couldn't capture a proper shot that showed how the swatch compared to my skin. but, if it's any help, here's a picture of my Silk Naturals mix(left) and my current mineral foundation, the Body Shop Nature's Minerals in shade 01. (hope the picture is not too dark to see...)

they look very different...but then again, although the Body Shop foundation seems to match my skin tone perfectly, it may just be that it's coverage is too sheer to note any difference..Sorry for the long post! I hope someone can help me find my perfect mix! :D

If the Buttery Gold mix seemed too dull, it is possible that a Warm Gold mix at about the same ratio will be better. Did you swatch it on your face? Did you try it on your cheek with a proper brush? Our foundation will not match other foundations in the jar even though they are a similar color. Ours generally look lighter in color.

Hi 4wheel,
I don't see a pm in my box from you. Please send it again, or just post here. Whichever you decide to do, I will answer!

Hi Jen,
yes, I tried my Buttery gold mix on my face. I did a swatch, but had to do an entire half of my face to actually notice that something looked off. I'll try Warm Gold instead and try to post the results. Thanks! =D

Angelstars, looks like your skin tone is close to mine. I use the yellow color booster to get my desired shade as mixing lots of ivory with Buttery Gold dilutes the yellow component in it (that's how I make sense of it). Without adding yellow, my mix appeared dull and greyish on my skin tone even though it was dark enough. HTH.

Hey Jen ! I have ebony and heavy and to get the coverage I need with the heavy I'm VERY dry and EVERY wrinkle looks like I'm 20 years older than I'm. :o LOL Would vegan be a better choice for me? I have been using MMU for over 5 - 6 years and have never had this issue before. TIA for and tips to help. :)
