You'll laugh - this was so unexpected. I asked a couple people if they happen to have spare shoebox lids, I had a cute idea of making a chest of drawers and maybe annihilating some cereal box cardboard to make the outer. Someone was in the city and bought me a proper smart looking plastic desktop organiser which has four drawers in A4 paper size as an unexpected gift! Woohoo and a half!

Image

Mine's black with chromium green translucent drawer handles - very smart.

The drawers only pull out half way as it's meant for storing paper, but it's fine for me as the shoebox lids fit inside neatly with about two inches spare space along the length for stuffing away old compacts etc. One has all my eyeshadows spread out, the other one is dedicated to foundation and all my blushers. It's so cute, I even put in all those dinky little samples I won't use just because they look so cute spread out in there. The top drawer has all my brushes - it's so deep I lined up the most used ones at the front and then have another row at the back of the drawer with the brush heads in the center of the drawer just visible (long handled brushes). They're so deep, I stashed away my old EDM full size round flat tubs in the back of the bottom drawer and it takes two tubs flat, one in front of the other, before I can see their edge. So it's perfect, place to stash the bits incase one day they can be useful for friends and plenty of visible space for the bits I use every day. Love it!

And *tonnes* of room for more so when money allows, I've already started a new cart wishlist for Grassroots, Bling, Boom, Highbeam, Whisper, Sprite, Vineyard... ;)

Happy days!

I can't use shoebox lids because I keep my stash in the bathroom and living in hot, humid Singapore means that paper containers will disintegrate sooner or later. Using desk organizers is a very nifty idea. Especially the plastic ones -- no rust.

I really enjoy walking through hardware stores, craft stores, even the kitchen sections, and brainstorming new ways of using gadgets and items that were not originally made for those uses.

Keep the ideas flowing, ladies!

Faith, I do the same thing.....leering at perfectly innocent household items and wondering if they could have a *double life*!

Helena- just a couple of weeks ago I bought the same thing to store my make up! Coincidence! But it didn't fit under my sink, so i'm using it for paper right now. I'm hoping to get a slightly smaller one soon.

Also- your wishlist sounds like my collection. I have Grassroots Green, Boom, Highbeam, and Vineyard and i've tried a sample of Bling and it's now on my wishlist. I can def recommend all of them. Grassroots Green is my favourite colour ever, and the others are all on very high rotation. I like your taste!

My make up is just stored in boxes under the sink as i don't have a lot of space. But i have a small tin that i keep in my top drawer- my weekly tin. I change the contents about every week so that i am always using different colours.

This is a picture-

i have two eyeliners, five eyeshadows, three blushes, face primer and concealer in it. i also keep my other daily makeup in the top drawer.

This is working out really well for me because it means i rotate colours regularly and always wear different things. And it doesn't take up a lot of space.

Might be a good idea for anyone with limited space.

I just reorganised my stash today... was using Enkore's CD holder idea but am finding its a little troublesome when it comes to getting colors from the bottom.. so I went out and bought myself some small plastic chest of drawer type things (will take pics tomorrow). So now, my foundie and PPs are in the top drawer. Blushers/glows are in the 2nd. E/S are in the third. These are the ones in f/s... my samples are still kept in my file folder in alpha order. :)

piccola-donna - I love your idea of the little tin, that's cute and a great way to keep your colour wardrobe fresh and full of variety. I was just on another forum encouraging someone who is enjoying taking "nice enough" colours and who blended them together in boredom and made a stunning new colour that they love. There really is a great deal of creativity and inspiration possible with the versatility of minerals - and why not apply the logic to multi-tasking household items, too! :D

Thanks helena. Is your new storage doing wonders for your creativity? Or at least tidiness?

I've actually been mixing colours together too! I've been mixing together blush samples that are bad colours for me into colours that work so that i can use them all up. On the tops of my blushes in the pic you can see the notes i've taken on the colours that are good and bad, and what i've mixed.
I've actually made some rather nice colours!

Due to a mineral makeup explosion, I've expanded my original organisation system! This set of A4 drawers was purchased almost exclusively for my SN collection. LOL!

Oooh nice. I am inspired to go out and get myself a bunch of those drawers too! I keep my make up in the bathroom so its nice when everything is tucked away in a drawer, hidden away from dust and hair spray and whatnot vapors.

Btw, I'm subscribed to ur blog via bloglines.

Hi all

The following photos on this post shows draw 1 of my eyeshadows that are grouped together by colour and I have written theirs names on the bottom of each pot.
I have another draw sectioned off with cardboard, containing my colid lip glosses with my demi glosses, black lable glosses and my liquid glosses.
I brought (on sale) 4, 2 - draw desk tidy's from a stationery shop (WHSmiths). I tried to get them all the same colour but they didn't have enough.
