Way to go, Woman! You'll find so many benefits to not smoking as you continue to get the yuck out of your system. My dad was a heavy cigarette a cigar smoker and we kids actually went through a detox process when he finally quit. It was great to be able to wear lovely scents that were not competing with tobacco smoke. Keep us posted daily, or hourly if you need to. Support from friends is the strongest weapon in your arsenal. We're here for you and VERY proud!! L.

L - wow, thanks for the encouragement! I am already feeling more energetic. I am finally starting to go through some of the detox symptoms and this is day 6. It's true that I get fewer cravings each day, but each time they're just as bad. The second day was the hardest.

I've realized this time (I've tried to quit like about twenty times before and never made it past day 2) that I'm actually excited to quit - and happy to do so. I think attitude is the key component to the quitting thing. That, and sugar-free gum. Wonderful distraction.

Also I read somewhere that it takes 28 days to cement a new behavioral habit, so I'm determined to retrain myself like Pavlov's dogs to chew sugar-free chewing gum instead of smoking cigarettes by giving myself at least 28 days responding to nicotine cravings by reaching for my pack of gum instead of a pack of smokes.

I have to say that I'm really proud of you for quitting smoking! It's not easy! The day I found out I was pregnant, I had one more cigarrette and then quit. My daughter is now 10 1/2. My husband still smokes, but not around us, not in the house, and not in the car. It was the habits that were the worst...the behavioral habits. But you can do this and it is amazing how much better and healthier you will feel! Your sense of smell and taste will also improve.

Beginning of day 9. DH is on beginning of day 3 (apparently my good behavior is contagious). :) Honestly, I had no idea how much this thread would help me, but during the first couple of days, I would think, "but if I cave in and buy cigarettes, I'm going to have to post on the SN board!" and that would stop me in my tracks.

Day 11 = successful. Harrowing at times... cause it was stressful... but God had my back today for sure.
Day 5 was successful for DH, too!
