If you're not allergic to mica, you could make your own tinted moisturiser with a little foundation and some aloe gel. Or use one of the finishing powders, but those contain mica, too. Whatever you do, moisturise first!
Cosmetic grade mica is really not a problem for most skin, and unless you're talking about the stuff they put into countertop tiles (which is not the stuff SN uses), you aren't risking skin tears.
I'm old and I've been using some forms of mineral make up since the 1960s (anyone remember India Earth?) and I have really sensitive skin - and it hasn't upset mine. Regular cosmetics - the over-the-counter liquid stuff - contain mica, too. SN is much better quality than that is, so if that hasn't torn your skin, I see no reason SN would.
Shirin's right though - you do want your skin itself to be as good as possible! Makeup can help hide imperfections and for some folks (you may be one of them, especially if you have birthmarks, old scars, or even active acne), but ideally it's an enhancement to your own beauty, and for some of us, it's kind of a fun art form, too.
If you're not allergic to any of the ingredients, I very much doubt you'll be harmed by anything in the product line. If you are allergic to mica, there are several small MMU companies that make mica-free foundation. The trade-off is that the mica-free stuff tends to be a lot heavier.
And this 'mica makes your skin tear' rumour, as far as cosmetics are concerned, is about along the same lines as 'castor oil in soap is poisonous'. Yes, castor oil in huge quantities taken internally will hurt you (there's a reason they use it for a laxative!), but in the amount and process used to make soaps it just makes the lather fluffier and nicer, and it's actually good for your skin. So if you're fearful, please relax. And maybe try some samples. Karen does keep up with the scientific literature, and if there are any warnings at all, she either doesn't use the ingredient, or posts it with the product description (like the bunny ear and DMAE).
I do hope you find what you're looking for.
