A new fur baby!
Re: A new fur baby!
Congratulations on the new puppy!
Don’t get frustrated with the training, 8 weeks is just too young for them to get it yet, it will come

I wish I could have a puppy again - your little beastie looks soooo cute. I love the little ones, too - used to have a chihuaha and when I got hin, he literally fit in a teacup.
Most little dogs housetrain really well (hint: close the bathroom door tight when you're out, or she may protest by streaming the toilet paper EVERYWHERE), and some of them like shoes a lot, too, but give it another month or two.
Terriers are SMART. I had one who'd leap into my arms when I was driving and we turned the corner into our street (she knew - fortunately it wasn't a high-trafic road!), or about 15 minutes before my husband got home, she'd always start going nuts (again, she knew). Animals are often so much more clever than people give them credit for. And they're great company, too. So glad you're out of that awful trailer and into a proper house now, where you can enjoy puppies!
They are addictive though - start out with one, then you'll feel like she needs company....trust me on this

oh no- Honey has made it very clear that she enjoys being an only child. And all peoples and all toys is belong to her. lol. It's cute to see her with friends (when we moved she became best friends with a great dane) but she would never want to share anything with him- least of all us.Rhys wrote:start out with one, then you'll feel like she needs company....
Honey wasn't too bad with the shoes, or the toilet paper- hers was electronics (wires- unfortunately she had to get electrocuted to get over that) and underwear. everydog in our family loves underwear- clean or dirty doesn't matter. They always seem to know which ones are your favorite too.
What I think is funny about puppies is that they learn to bark- they grow into it. None of them seem to know how or have the inkling to bark to begin with. They'll be all quiet and then one day that first real bark comes out and it never goes away.

Haha, underwear! Yup, my Leo steals them still, clean or dirty. He also likes to steal tissue or q-tips out of the trashcan in the bathroom - after two years we still have to close that door. He does it right in front of me too, the little tease 'whatchu gonna do about it, i'm outta here'.
The training, like someone said takes two to tango. I remember getting upset when he wasn't getting it, but then I realized that I wasn't making all the effort to take him out on time... We live on the 4th floor, so it was a bit of a deal and not being a morning person, but it was all worth it

THere are things that they never grow out of, the underwear for instance. Both of our 14 year old poodles will find any Kleenex with in the house if it is in the trash, dig it out and shred it into a million pieces. Needless to say, all Kleenex's go into the toilet to be flushed, not in the trash. However, they will leave any other type of paper alone, including the toilet paper, so as long as there are no Kleenex in the trash the bathroom door can stay open.
And they tolerate the other 3 dogs, and the cats, but if given a choice would much rather be the only 2 fur children in this house.

Re: A new fur baby!
Thank you all so much for the encouragement! Oh yes on the paper- any sort of paper is just fascinating to them. Bitsy hasn't gotten into the undies yet, but we used to have a dog who just looooved them...especially new ones.
The training is going pretty well...Bitsy has managed to teach mommy and daddy several things. Her newest trick is that she's learned if she squats in front of mommy she can go outside where she can chase bugs, chew on sticks, and see if any of the neighborhood cats left her "presents". Of course, actual indoor potty times are done in strict secrecy, but she's getting closer to the door.

Re: A new fur baby!

We just got Samantha about a month ago...we adopted from a local shelter and she is about 2 years old. Still quite a kitten

Our other baby, Bert. She is about 6 and wasn't all that pleased about Sam's arrival, but they are buddies now. I don't know how our girl cat ended being Bert...I blame it on my oldest

Really...
She ate the whole corner off that box

Re: A new fur baby!
Bert and Samantha are adorable. Sam looks so cute eating the box, happy as can be. I am glad to hear they are buddies.
