First time poster, long time lurker. I'm de-lurking because I'm getting married and I need makeup advice and I'm asking on a couple of forums. The wedding isn't for awhile, but the planning is still fun. Anyway, it's a casual wedding and I'm going to be in a red dupioni dress. And I mean RED, probably with black and either silver or gold accessories. I look good in both metals.
So I'm not sure if I want to play up my eyes or my lips. I have golden blond hair, a darker shade, but not near brown at all. Some people see red undertones in certain lights and my mother is a redhead, so possibly. My eyes are a pretty vivid, dark blue and my skin is super pale with yellow undertones. My lips are pretty pigmented for my skintone. I really love red lipstick, only I have yet to find a single shade that looks good on me. And I've tried a great many things. The red always has to be muted and that's weird to me because when it comes to clothes, clear colors are much better on me than muted ones. And I look great in clear reds. I might try for a smoky eye, but it might tip things to the "too much" area.

Congratulations!!! That sounds like so much fun! Ummmmm that's a bit of a tough call- I do think smokey may be too much. For anything bridal I always say classic and understated- trends change so much over the course of a lifetime, that I worry about makeup looking "dated" when your grand kids are looking at the pictures. You can't go wrong with pretty. I keep seeing a "Marilyn Monroe" type look- very simple eyes with lots of feminine, fluttery lashes, a little liner- and then some simple shadow. I'm really tempted to say simple on the lipstick too. Red red red is a lot to pull off in a picture when you're wearing a red dress. On the other hand it's always classic, and may be the perfect thing for your wedding. If you're going red look for one of the stay put silicone formulas so that the groom isn't a mess after the "you may kiss the bride" part. The last time I looked Estee Lauder was making a few good ones.
Good Luck!

I am absolutely no expert AT ALL, but if you were looking for a recommendation for a red lippie that goes with both a smoky eye or a subtle eye; try Temptation. On the site it called a coral red, but on my very fair, yellow toned skin, it comes off as a soft warm red and is very flattering. I wear it when I am wearing bright red, and it looks great.

What about dark eyeliner smudged with a stiff eyeshadow brush, a nude shadow with some lovely fake lashes (MAC no. 7 are my all time favourite!), then a reddy tint on your lips? Its not too OTT and looks great in pictures!
