My first MUA gig!

Post by pinkpomelo » Mon Apr 13, 2009 12:56 am

Yesterday was Easter Sunday. And my friend's wedding day.

For the last month, I've been working on her wedding video. The couple are good friends of mine and we were there for the surprise proposal and I captured it all on video. I blended it into a montage of their childhood and life together. And when they showed it in church, there were a lot of happy tears. A month's worth of work totally worth it -- to be able to give them such a memorable day! All day people went up to them and complimented them on the video.

Yesterday, I was multimedia producer, make up artist and sound engineer, all rolled into one! Haha!

I did the make up for her Matron of Honor, her mom, and her sister. I designed eyebrows, covered up flaws, applied false eyelashes, curled and teased hair, and apart from the foundation, everything I used came from Silk Naturals! I also did a quick blush and gloss for the flower girls (she had FIVE adorable cuties!) -- Babydoll for the fair girls, Satisfied for the tanned ones. For the lips, everyone got either Precious or Mimosa! And it worked so beautifully on both the fair girls and darker ones.

For the Matron of Honor, I used the brown quad to give her a natural day look. Just playing up the contours, but leaving her still looking natural.

For Mom, I kept with the brown quad but added Pixie. She was wearing an aquamarine suit and I wanted to play up the green/blue tones.

For sis, I just gave her a quick wash of Charmed because she's more on the warm side, as opposed to mom, who's on the cooler side. The gold tones in Charmed really worked well on warm skins.

It was so fun, but I'm utterly zapped out now. I was also one of her "sisters" for the Bride Fetching ceremony and I organised the games for the Groom and his "brothers". In traditional Chinese weddings, the groom has to go through "trials" to prove his worthiness to obtain the bride. In order to gain entry into her home, he has to "battle" his way through challenges that her "sisters" set for him. This can be anything mild (sing a love song) to the tedious (climb 13 flights of stairs) to the ridiculous (wear adult diapers and walk around the block) to the disgusting (eat a mixture of mashed bananas blended with melted chocolate from a potty). There is also the element of bartering for "ang pows" -- red packets filled with money in symbolic numbers like "8" or "9" -- I set the bride price at $999.99. Of course, no one pays $999.99. Its just a fun number to throw out and do some pretend bartering.

Congrats, Faith, that sounds like such a wonderful day to have been a part of and that you've blessed them so much. It must have been a mix of nerve-wracking and so heart-warming to see close friends enjoy such tender moments and yet keep your professional composure while tending to all that needs your care. Bless you, too, for all that you did for them - and talk about starting your MUA career on a high-note! I'm so pleased for you (and I loved your story of the day). *hug*

Thanks, Helena! One of the best parts of the day was when the bible boy (a cute little kid about 5 years old) walked with all seriousness up the aisle and after he handed the pastor the bible, he stood by the best man and literally, HEAVED a sigh of relief. Everyone laughed. SOOO CUTE!

I'm late to the party but it sounds like you had a blast!!! You've got skills!!! Hair and makeup- it's rare to find people who can do both well. Around here for weddings it's almost always separate.

Woohoo!!! It's the beginning of something wonderful.
