another newbie looking for foundation help :)

Post by jcbg618 » Sun Dec 07, 2008 7:05 am

Hi there! I'm new to the world of MMU and I'm just trying out different brands to see what works the best for me. I like the idea of being able to customize my foundation and adjust as needed because I'm such an in-betweener, but first I need to see what my undertone is and I'm hoping you all can help!

In terms of MAC foundations I'm an NC40, but I haven't used MAC foundations in years so I'm not sure how accurate that is. At the moment I'm using Make Up Forever HD foundation in a mix of 123 (for light skin with olive undertones) and 153 (for medium skin with olive undertones). When I look at my wrist, my veins appear green, so I think that means I have yellow undertones? Buttery Gold looks like it might be too yellow for me, but I heard Warm Gold might be too ashy. I'm including a lame picture of me with my eyes, nose, and mouth blocked out b/c I feel akward putting my bare face on the internet, haha but at least you can see my skin!

Thank you in advance!

Hi, JC! Didn't want you to be lonely here,LOL! I'm thinking a mix of warm gold + ebony as many of us wear. *Really* simple to mix & tweak as desired! Can also assure you that chapped lips will be a thing of the past as soon as you try SN's legendary KisserSlickers, ROFL! They're incredibly habit-forming so consider yourself forewarned ;) but the lippies are wonderful.

I think Warm Gold will be your best match for undertones. Probably at about a 1 scoop color to 4-5 scoops Ivory. The only reasons foundation with the correct undertone would look ashy is if it was not dark enough, or not mixed well enough, and possibly even too fresh on your face (meaning it does need a little time to blend with the oils in your skin to reach its final color...it does darken a bit on your face as it blends with your own oils.)

thanks for your help :) I'm also looking for a concealer/corrector for my horrible dark circles. At the moment I'm using Bobbi Brown Corrector in Dark Peach and it works pretty well, but you can still tell I have dark circles. I saw there's a Salmon Sleep in a Jar and when I searched the forums it said it was coming out in "MOAC wave 3" but I have no idea what that means, haha. Oh, and the whole using a shade lighter than my skin tone doesn't work for me either, it just makes my circles look ashy :(

The New version of Peach (old Salmon) concealer just ended up with a different name. If I were you, I'd try Medium Peach Sleep in a Jar.
