Oh my god look at the time, I'm late

Post by Ghost » Wed Oct 22, 2008 2:16 pm

Hi all

I'm one of those people who are fairly organised and very very rarely late for anything. Well Tuesday morning could have turned into a disaster for me (I know I know, being late may not seem like a disaster to some people but I always pride myself on being very punctual).

Every 3 weeks I get weighed at the doctor (as you guys might know) by the nurse who is lovely by the way, to help me loose weight. Well I don’t know what was going through my head Monday night when i set my alarm but here it is:

Monday night: I have to be at the doctor surgery at 08:10 (have flexi time at work so they don’t mine me being later). Have to catch the 07:50 bus and need to leave my home at 07:40. Its takes me 1hr and 10min to get ready in the morning, so for some unknown reason I set my alarm at 07:30. Not one click of what I just done.
Tuesday morning: Well I woke up on my own at 06:45 and seeing how I usually get up at 06:00 having a lie-in till 06:45 is heaven on a work day, but still no click. I lay in bed till 07:10 when I realise I'm not going back to sleep so I should properly get up. Down stairs, brush my teeth, wash my face etc. Back up stair a 07:30 and decide to get dress and do my hair (still no click). 07:40 start putting on my make-up, start with the primer still no click. 07:42 knock on my sisters door, my mum telling her that its nearly 07:45 and she'll be late for college. CLICK!!!!!! Looks at the clock OH S***. I should have left the house the house by now and be on the way to the bus stop. Right I decide that I have 8 mins to finish my face, grab my bag (always made up the night before) put on my trainer and run for the bus. That morning I was going to so a stonewashed pallets blend of 3 colour but don't have the time. I choose two colour that were recommend the one-wash colours - opal and idolize, grab my SN mascara (almost poking my eye out at the same time) flirt as blusher, grab two lippies because I don't have time to decide which one to use (breathless and nectar) grab my bag, run down stairs, put on my trainers while talking really fast to my mum explaining what just happened (apparently later on when I came home from work mum said she didn't understand a word I said but she trusted that I knew what I was doing  ), grab my coat and out the door. Its a 10 min walk to the bus stop so there was a lot of running and walking really fast while praying to god that the bus is late just this once. Turn the corner and yes there is a god. I've never been so happy to see a line of people at the bus stop lol. I made it to the stop just before the bus turned the corner at 07:55. Get off the bus at 08:10 walk quite quickly to the surgery and made it with one min to spare - phew.

What amazes me is that not one click of recognition that I should have woke up at 06:30 not 07:30 and I can’t blame anyone but me. I'm just so glad arrive on time. So I was wondering does anybody else have their own "Oh god look at the time, I'm late" stories.

Ah, Sarah...we have something in common. I am punctual to a fault. I *have* awakened on a weekend in a total panic *thinking* I'd overslept & would be "late for work". ROFL since I *get up at 2* & need to be in work at 7*...yeah, 5 hrs, hehehe. My schedule is my schedule, though, & I don't want to be rushed ~ I do chores in the morning that sane people do in the evening (I go to bed at 6). The WORST, though, is that odd time of year when you wake up out of a sound sleep, look at the clock, & PANIC...& you suddenly realize it could be AM or PM & you're just not SURE. :? THOSE times REALLY get me going, lol.

My critters regulate time for me pretty well (potty time at 6AM, breakfast at 7AM, etc.), as long as their routine is maintained.  But if they get to potty late in the evening, all bets are off.   :o   6AM is a virtual animal symphony in our area - half a dozen roosters, my donkey braying the second I open the door to let the dogs out, dogs barking, horses whinnying, geese honking and most recently a weaned colt crying for his mommy.  The roosters are hilarious - one of them is mature, and there are four or five young'uns who haven't quite got the crowing thing down.  They sound like they're being strangled.  We've also got a lot of Canadian geese who hang out in the back pasture.  It's pretty amazing when hundreds of them take flight at the same time.  Drives my lab crazy!!!    DH and I have four alarm clocks - two plugged in and two with batteries.  Most days we wake up just before they go off at 5:50AM (mine) and 7:15 (his).   Now if we could train the critters to give us an extra hour on Saturdays.....Lauren

My morning routine is pretty mcuh the same, but the time varies by an hour depending on what time I need to be at work. I make sure at least twice before I go to sleep that hubby sat the clock for either 6 or 7, then when it goes off, the dogs go crazy so it is no lingering in bed for me, take dogs out, draw up hubby's insulin and then begin the morning shower, fluff etc. I am always to wook on time ,but have been known to put on eye makeup after I get there if I am running really late. I rarely sleep past 6:30 even on a day off.but I can guarentee you that I would never make it to work by 7 if I waited until then to get up,no matter how hard I tried or how fast I fluffed.

Mikie, Jen may remember this story but since you :D get up so early you will laugh. I had to go in at 3am one day last winter to help cover for a night shift call off, so I crawl out of bed at 2, take a shower and put on my makeup so that I can get ready for work. Now keep in mind that unlike you I have probably only had 4 hours of sleep so I'm not really awake though this whole process, I get ready to spritz my face, and since I use an aerosol that is in a spray can, I grab the can and lightly spray, the only problem, I just sprayed my face with hairspray. Needless to say , I don't recommend this method for setting makeup, but I can guarentee you that my makeup didn't fade or disappear that day. :D

That's funny, Hollis. I'll bet you were wide awake after the shot of hairspray! You may have a leg up on the next great spritzer product! I did one worse than that once - brushed my teeth (in the dark, of course, so as not to wake hubby) with a big wad of Desitin Ointment. What idiot put that tube next to the toothbrush cup?! Desitin is great for chafing and diaper rash, but NOT for freshening breath, especially since it's virtually impossible to get it all out of your mouth. That particular tube is now in the OTHER bathroom! Lauren

OMGosh, ROFLMAO at all of your stories, ladies! I am a SAHM, so I don't really *need* to fluff in the morning, but I just refuse to be one of those moms that drop their kids off in their jammie bottoms and flip-flops.
I set my alarm for precisely 5:55am, so I can get up to make DH lunch while he is in the shower, but usually one of 2 things gets me up prior to that. 1) The sound of the shower wakes up my bladder(I know, TMI, and the more I try to sleep, the worse it gets) or 2) 1,2, or all 3 of my kitties are all up in my face, walking on me and WAILING *mommmmmy, I'm Huuuunnnnggggrrrryyyyy!!! feeeeeeeedddd me!!!!!!!* , and blowing cat breath in my face. And woe is me when both occur at the same time......a trio of hungry tuxedo kitties are experts at tripping up a half-asleep, stiff-legged, got-to-pee 46 year old post-hysterectomy-ed woman, and forcing me to feed and water them before I can seek the quiet comfort of my loo!
Then comes the morning *interegation* from DH....*so, what are your plans for today?*......*UH....coffee..?......Ask me in an hour when I've bathed and fluffed.
OOPs, must go...will finish this latter!

These stories are a hoot & a half!

Funny how tempting it is to just lay there in bed pretending the urge to go potty will "go away", ROFL!

Must be amazing w/the geese taking flight! Every year we have wild turkeys that roost here...sometimes 50+ at the same time, lol. Michael feeds them all winter. The cats watch them but don't seem to chatter at them the way they chatter while watching the birdfeeders. Still an incredible sight.

Have spritzed myself in the face with my scent before, lol, just being preoccupied, not even half-asleep!!! That's nowhere NEAR like hairspray or like brushing teeth w/Desitin ointment, but it *was* recently & I really HAD no excuse, hehe. I just ditzed-out!

Hollis- I totally remember your hairspray story! Too funny!

I am usually punctual to a fault, also. The one that I remember most involved picking my DS up after school. He was having a buddy over, and I decided to pick them up instead of have them ride the bus. I lost track of time and missed leaving the house until 20 minutes after the pickup time. That made me over a half hour late. Luckily, he had a really late bus that year, and when a parent is late, the kids get sent to after school care. I got there as they were walking down the hall to after school care. DS is a worrier, so he was pretty upset. The buddy is a 'happy go lucky' kid, and so he was not worried at all. It seems pretty minor, but I was horrified to forget my baby!!!

Lauren, I think if I have my choice I"ll stick to spritzing with hairspray, even the thought of Desitin (or anything involving Zinc Oxide) in my mouth makes me cringe.
Laurie, I totally understand the I've got to pee, but don't want to get up mode and the joy of having critters wanting out and fed at the same. Usually the 2 poodle's wake me up before I have figured out that the alarm is going off, and it is we want out, feed me mom as they are jumping all over me. I don't have to do the chit chat with DH however, since we are both awakened all night by the phone( the joy of having jobs that have you on call 24/7), so he is either trying to get extra sleep, or checking out his work emails 1st thing, so other than an I love you ttyl, not much early am conversation at our house.
Jen, I forgot my youngest once also, only she was much like your son's friend, actual comment was it was ok , I was having fun, which made me even feel worse. So I know exactly how you feel.

Thank goodness I'm not alone! I had a cat who always woke me up at 7:00 am (torture for a college student)- no matter what I did to try to sleep in just a little- including picking my bedroom lock, knocking things off counters, playing with loud things on the hardwood floors. Yeesh.

DH used to have a job where he'd travel all week, every week- he'd leave Sunday night, and come back Friday night. One Thursday he came home early- Friday morning I woke up and my husband was next to me- I figured it MUST be Saturday, killed the alarm, rolled over and went back to sleep. I was *2 hours* late for work- my boss was pretty understanding, but I took a lot of ribbing that day.

It's finally time for dinner- I thought this week would never end.
