If my sister LOVES papyrus eyeshadow,

Post by packgal » Sun Feb 10, 2013 12:15 am

what other eyeshadows do you think she'll like?

I gave her papyrus because it was too dark on me for a highlight color and too warm as a lid color. She absolutely adores it and I want to get her something else she'll love just as much :) Any recs would be appreciated!

maybe cloudberry, it has a similar texture and depth, just a more peachy colour.
i could also imagine that she would like adorn (because who doesn't??) and deco.

but what exactly is it that she loves about papyrus? i love it for it's texture (pearl with no obvious shimmer), so my recommendations are rather for similar texture than colour.

i think she loves everything about it, including the color and texture. i was seriously considering getting her adorn, because you're right, who doesn't like that one? but i'd also like to get her something completely neutral with no blue/purple/green iridescence as well because the other thing i think she likes about papyrus is that she can kind of slap it on quickly as a one color wash and it looks good, goes with everything, etc.

i think cloudberry might be too peachy (although it's been on my own wishlist forever). so far i was considering between maybe quartzite, tailfeather, or motive...the only one of i have of those is tailfeather, which i really like.

Papyrus is one of my favorites too. Homecoming Queen is stunning, it's a little lighter and more shimmery than Papyrus-but similar in tone. I also love either of these paired with Honey for a subtle crease color.

i don't know your sister's skintone, but for a very neutral and subtle one colour wash (maybe with a bit of liner) that just gives a polished look to the lids i love restless.

motive is lovely, but more shimmery and less pearly than papyrus.

quartzite didn't impress me personally, i found it to be a bit boring and not very pigmented. bailey might be a nicer alternative, but that's of course a matter of personal preference. i always love me some pearls and suedes

i havetail feather but cannot remember it right now. maybe i'll wear it tomorrow and report back on my impressions ;)

other than that i can only recommend that you let your sister browse ALL the eyeshadows on the site. they are just so pretty to look at and i love discovering colours that i have previously missed :D

thanks both very much for your help with this!

kchalbi, homecoming queen was on my list, and actually honey was too...but i want to get her a lid color and thought maybe homecoming queen was too light. so honey is different enough from papyrus that it's worth having both? that's what i was concerned with regarding that one.

bellatete, thanks for your takes on motive and quartzite. tailfeather is a great color but i'm just not sure that it's something my sister will reach for much...i can't put my finger on why...i'm worried she won't like "brown." i know i couldn't get her to browse the site, she's just not as makeup crazy as i am. she's come to the site before and basically just reordered papyrus without even looking at other colors. i'm trying to expand her makeup mind :) i've looked at the suede colors, and need to find a swatch of restless...i don't think anything like the eyelight finish will work because i don't think she even wears a eyeshadow primer. the color needs to be kind of straightforward. for the record, i think she has a fairly neutral skintone, light-medium in depth.

anyway, i'm confusing myself now with all my requirements for a color. now i'm thinking of other stuff like earth and purples like sari and kind because she has green eyes. but i'm afraid she won't like purple! there are too many pretty colors!

I swatched these and took a picture, but this website never lets me upload them :( I get a message that says the file is invalid. I don't have this problem uploading pics to other sites. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, I'd love some help! I'm also not able to copy and paste the picture into the text.

As far as the shadows, Honey is darker than Papyrus by at least a shade, but is more similar in tone-it's more of a true gold vs the brown in Tailfeather. Homecoming Queen is a little light for a wash for me personally-I guess it would depend on your skin depth. Other colors I like for a wash are Model, Mojave, and Mahalo.

oh, a swatch would be awesome! i don't think i have ever figured out how to upload a pic directly to the site, it's never worked for me. so what i always do is upload it to a pic hosting site like flickr or photobucket and then do this:

so you'll delete everything between the stars, including the stars, and replace it with the URL of your picture, the URL will look something like this: http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc3 ... G_0246.jpg

thanks again for your help!

oh, i just realised that restless isn't swatched on the site :S i found a pretty good picture of it on this blog: http://baroque-in-babylon.blogspot.co.a ... lette.html

to give you a point of reference, i have hazel eyes with quite a bit of green in them, but most purples don't look good on me. i only like purples on me that are more red than blue, sort of plummy. as for straight forward lid colours, here are some of my favourites...

"safe" colours:
- sweet tea >> if your sister doesn't like the idea of brown, this might convert her
- touring >> described as a "your lid but better" colour and i agree with this, it's foolproof
- mojave >> it is loved by many, and rightfully so ;)
- soiree >> one of those colours that can be slapped on, blended out a bit and i'm good to go
- propinquity >> so pretty and subtle!!
- purrr >> safe but pretty, and easy to use
- cashmere >> similar to purrr but a little deeper

with a bit of a fun factor:
- flash >> i reach for this when i feel like shimmer, but don't want any real colour on my lids
- teacher's pet >> don't let the swatch fool you, it's not that green ;)
- fete >> similar to soiree but a little deeper
- fusion >> it's an eyelight, but i hardly ever wear it with a sticky primer and it still looks gorgeous
- ion >> similar to fusion, but lighter
- doubloons >> this one is light and dark at the same time, but nicely neutral in colour
- idolize >> i find this to be lighter than the swatch, very easy to wear
- loaded >> a little cooler toned than cashmere, but similar in depth
- clutch >> similar to loaded but deeper - that's the type of reddish colour that makes the green in my eyes pop
- adorn >> for obvious reasons :D

for when i feel a bit more brave than usual (= lots of fun):
- martian >> one of my absolute favourite sn colours!!
- dark arts >> green with earthy undertones that can be very wearable when applied sheerly
- groove >> surprisingly flattering on my hazel eyes, easier-to-use version of dark arts
- godiva >> similar to cashmere but with added interest
- deco >> the green interference makes this beige-y colour subtly interesting
- prowl >> i don't wear this as a lid wash, but as liner (all by itself, as it is so gorgeous!!) and like clutch it makes my eyes look so green i can hardly believe it

i think you cannot go wrong with most gwp re-issues, since these had to be liked/loved by lots of people, which in my eyes means they are flattering on most people ;)
