highlight colors, lighter than boom, same family?

Post by zeebs » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:57 pm

Hi ladies,

I'm having trouble figuring out what e/s to put on my list. I am planning to get three or four.

I am always in need of highlight colors that work for me. i am pale and I don't look good in cool colors, usually, so sometimes this is a challenge.

Boom is a great color on me but it's actually too dark (lol) for a highlight.

I am using a Maybelline product right now called Linen, which is about the right color but isn't quite shimmery enough or maybe I'm just spoiled and can't deal with its texture in comparison to SN.

At any rate, here are some colors I am considering, please advise if you've tried them.

Adorn
Bristol
Homecoming Queen
Mojave
Vanilla
Whipped Cream
Whisper

I understand not all may be highlights, but would appreciate your advice all the same in terms of what they look like.

Another pale face but I lean to the cool side. For reference - Lucy Light for foundation. Whisper & Mojave are both lid colors for me. But I prefer lighter lid colors due to having hooded eyes.
Whisper could possibly be used as a highlight color. It is a smidge pinker than Boom & more sparkly where Boom looks more pearly to my eye.

Mojave is pinker than Boom but is a warm pink. It has more depth of color than Boom does, if that makes sense. Too dark for a highlight on me but it definitely brightens my eyes up. I like it with a bit of liner for those quick makeup days. Also like it with Taupetastic or Slate for a bit more polished look.

I absolutely adore Homecoming Queen as a highlight. I haven't found a color I don't like it with. IMO it is a color that plays very well with others! Another you might want to consider as a highlight color is Sonic. From SN website - "Sonic is a very light, pearlescent golden tone with an intense golden slightly pinkish copper highlight." I loved Sonic but it didn't love me back - it was a bit too warm for me. HTH

Adorn is lid color for sure, so is Mojave (and Truly, it's less shimmery counterpart) and Whisper (lotsa sparkles). Adorn has nice interference, and many reported to be able to wear it as one wash and still have different affects without having to use other colors for outer V, for example.
Mojave pretty much replaced Boom for me when I want easy eye: awesome neutral one wash.

Whipped Cream is essentially white, may be too cool for you. Vanilla is almost white, has a bit of warmness to it. It's a general highlighter along with Cream, especially to match neutrals.

Homecoming Queen is a light golden color with a tiny bit of pink, almost unnoticeable, while Sonic is almost like Fire. Bristol is pretty, but it's more on the pinker side.

Zeebs, I agree with the other gals.....I think you will love Homecoming Queen as a highlight. If I was stranded on a desert island with just one highlight, that would be it!
Sonic would be second.
Bristol is pretty...but honestly....it disappears into my eyelid and I can't see it AT ALL.
Whisper...too pink,
Adorn is a neat one color wash, but a little dark for a highlight.
Mojave....ditto(but it's really pretty mixed with clear gloss)
I don't have Whipped Cream or Vanilla.
I am very fair....leaning towards yellow.....HTH!

Yep, you need homecoming queen. Mojave is too dark for a highlight for me, the others I have tried from that list are too shimmery (I prefer pearly rather than shimmery highlights) what sort of finish do you like in a highlight colour?

OK, I just re-read that and it didnt make that much sense, so here is a better response!
Adorn - haven't tried
Bristol - too pink,
Homecoming Queen - must have, beautiful pearly neutral highlight colour
Mojave - lid colour
Vanilla - too shimmery
Whipped Cream - very chunky shimmery
Whisper - pretty light lid colour

I just ordered Juiced!! And I was fortunate to get a sample of H-Queen from Egerandi (as well as several of the other colors on my list here) and you were so right, it's perfect for what I requested.

Question resolved!! I'll let you know how I like Juiced!

PS, anybody tried Flash?

I've tried and love Flash to highlight. It is pretty shimmery though, just though I'd give you a heads up on that. I guess I'd describe it as a champagne shade, but then, I suck at describing things. I can also see it working as a light, shimmery lid color too, especially if you foil. I hadn't thought of trying it that way, but I just swatched it and the more heavily I apply it the more I see it working as a lid color, but applied lightly with a fluffy brush it works great to highlight as well. I feel like I'm rambling now. Blah blah blah. I'm impressed with Flash though, it's one of my favorites.

I have Flash. I ordered it because it was a Nude Beach dupe. I own two other Nude Beach dupes and really like them as a wash of colour for my lids. I have green eyes and fair skin. Nude Beach to me is shimmery and nuetral biegey.

I also have Adorn and prefer Adorn. Adorn is more complicated. I also wear Adorn as a lid colour/wash.
