Looking for a self-tanner- or maybe I could make one?

Post by cosmeticcosmos » Sun Jan 23, 2011 7:01 pm

In some old posts I've seen Karen mentioning a self-tanner. I would LOVE to get my hands on a simple self-tanner without so many extra ingredients like parabens and a ton of oils and waxes which often for me make body acne flare up. I've seen Nature's Gate and GoW have some formulas which are more natural than ones I'd find at the drugstore, but the ingredients are just too heavy for my cystic acne/bacne.

I had an idea of purchasing a bottle of standard aloe vera gel and making some dihydroxyacetone in with it to make a self-tanning gel. Have any of you ever tried to make your own self-tanner? How did the finished product turn out?

It sounds like a good thought. Self tanners are tricky because you have to have a base that absorbs really well, and evenly. Aloe gel MIGHT work, but the DHA might not dissolve, and there's a possibility that it will break the carbomer gel (carbomer likes to turn into water very easily). It's one of those try it and see things...
Good luck!

I hope it's ok to suggest another company on here. Just thought I'd mention Mychelle in case you haven't found or made anything that works for you yet. Mychelleusa.com They have a self tanner that's all natural. IDK if it will work for you or not but I think you can get a sample first. If not, let me know and I'll send you a lil bit. It feels really light to me but I have dry skin now.
